NASCAR Royalty Dale Earnhardt Jr Mourns the Tragic Loss of Olivia Newton-John

On Monday, August 8th, one of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry, Olivia Newton-John, who rose to pop-culture gold through her role in ‘Grease’, sadly passed away. And such was her loss, that it was felt well beyond Hollywood and the music industry, including in NASCAR, as Dale Earnhardt Jr. paid a tribute to her.

The NASCAR Hall of Famer paid tribute to the icon who lived till 73 years of age, by tweeting something in honor of the multiple-time Grammy winner’s passing.

“Sitting with Amy watching Olivia Newton John music videos,” he wrote.

It should also be noted that the name Newton-John wasn’t a complete stranger to the world of stock car racing and NASCAR.

This is because her nephew, Emerson Newton-John took part in the Freedom 100 at Indianapolis in 2012. In fact, Olivia Newton-John herself served as the grand marshall of that race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr opens up on his special love for country music

In an interview from many years ago, Dale Jr. described how when he was a kid, not all races were on TV, so instead of the races, he would listen to country music stations. 

“When the race would be done, there would be country music playing, and I loved it,” he added as he went on to reveal the song, which could be his favorite of all time.

“’Rose Colored Glasses’ just might be one of my favorite songs ever,” Earnhardt Jr. claimed.

The JR Motorsports co-owner also disclosed the fact that he’ll always love country music despite the fact that his music tastes are “all over the board” as he named the two artists who connect with him on a deeply personal level.

“I love guys like Kenny Chesney and Eric Church,” he said. “They speak to me.”
