Kyle Petty reveals there is a lot more to come
After last year’s Cup Series finale had ended and the NASCAR world officially entered hibernation, the NASCAR YouTube page treated fans with a series of conversations between The King and his son, going over the sport’s 75-year-long history. From the Ford vs Chrysler battle over the 427 Hemi to Richard Petty’s 200th Cup Series win, the series covered the highlights of Petty’s career as he navigated NASCAR’s glory days.
While the series aimed to educate fans about the sport, Kyle Petty wasn’t expecting the kind of reception it received owing to the timing of its release. He shared, “It’s fun, it’s very educational for me. If nobody else learns anything, I don’t care, okay? That’s my disclaimer. So we did four that came out right before the end of the year. And we just threw them out there at the end of the year when we didn’t think a lot of people would watch them…[..]…and they got great views man, great.“
All four videos surpassed over 15k views. Reflecting on all the positive feedback, Kyle Petty also revealed news that fans will be delighted to hear. He stated. “The critiques were good. You know the comments that we got on them were good. So yesterday, we just went in and shot six more in the same location in the oldest part of the race shop. And then we’re going in next week and shooting another eight or ten that will air this year, and it’s been a lot of fun.”
With the educational series instantly becoming a hit for NASCAR fans, Kyle Petty is delighted to continue unraveling the history of NASCAR through the lens of his legendary father. He further shared great insight into the significance of the set behind the series.

A peek into the Petty family’s humble beginnings
In all the Shift videos, Richard Petty narrated his side of the story sitting in front of a beautiful old Plymouth with the #42 on it, parked in a confined space. While the Petty Enterprise has grown into quite the behemoth, the show wanted to encapsulate Petty’s humble beginning. And it did so perfectly.
Kyle Petty shared, “So that one place, if you go back and watch it, that one room there where we do the interview, is the original building at Petty Enterprises. It was Lee Petty Engineering, and when we started the conversation yesterday, went down a totally different road. In that one room, my grandfather won 24 of his 54 races.” But that’s not all. He also revealed that it had borne witness to a remarkable feat. Petty added, “One of them being the Daytona Beach course. He’s the only guy, as we were talking yesterday, who had won at the beach and at the speedway.”
Petty shared that Fireball Roberts had also achieved a similar feat, albeit in a convertible. The 63-year-old added, “My grandad did in a Cup car, or Grand National car which is what they were called then. It’s been interesting to sit there and talk to him, and basically, Shift is, and when you watch it, it’s the evolution of NASCAR through the eyes of my dad, through The King.”

One of Kyle Petty’s favorite aspects about the series was the fact that a lot of NASCAR’s greatest moments occurred when his father was around, but as a child. So understanding the point of view of his father as a child was rather interesting for him. He concluded, “It’s been fun to get into NASCAR archives and to be able to do that so I’m looking forward to the other SHIFT programs this year.”
