The regular-season finale on the tracks of Daytona was a day to be remembered for NASCAR fans. The race assuredly broke the hearts of millions, not only because Hendrick Motorsports‘ star failed to qualify for the first time and enter the post-season but also because of Kurt Busch’s revelation about his concussions during Pocono qualifying last season.

Since then, No. 45 has been awaiting medical clearance and dying to wear his racing suit again. However, it is clear that he won’t be wearing the suit and is ready to hang his helmet after failing the medical clearance. As a result, Kurt Busch announced his retirement from professional racing on Saturday. However, Kurt remains an indispensable part of Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing team as a member of the advisory board.

Many raised their inquisitive brows regarding Busch’s new role and remained skeptical about whether he would be able to fulfill it. However, Busch’s fellow driver and longtime rival, Ricky Cavern, believes that Busch’s resilient attitude makes him the perfect fit for the role.

In a trip down memory lane, Ricky Cavern in an interview with Skewcar divulged, “The back of the car came loose, he retaliated and I came to the realization, he’s not going to allow me to get by.”

Nevertheless, in an interview with the media after his retirement announcement, Kurt Busch delved deeper into his new role on the team.

He revealed, “I made up my official title this year. I was called CFD- coefficient of drag. That is what CFD stands for, but I re-nicknamed it Captain of the Fun Department. That has been a good role, and here lately, I’ve revised it.”

“I want to be slightly more professional with the group, so I’ve named myself CVO- chief vision officer. Whatever it means is whatever, it means, but I have enjoyed working with all the departments and being that extra set of eyes and helping our team advance so that we can win more races, be more competitive, and have shots at winning championships[…]”
