Except for those few drivers who have tested on the newly reconfigured and repaved track at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the rest of the drivers are heading into the NASCAR weekend with a blank slate. This is something Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin also reiterated.

Ahead of the Cup Series race in Atlanta, Hamlin was asked how he expects the racing to be in Atlanta.

“I don’t know what to expect, I don’t know if we are going to be drafting,” Hamlin said according to Speedway Digest. “I don’t think we are going to be tight pack racing.”

“It’s not going to be Daytona or Talladega, but are they going to be grouped together, how are you going to build your car, all of those things are going to be a question mark and I have no clue what I’m getting into.”

Denny Hamlin and team predicted their underwhelming start to the season

Four races into the season and Denny Hamlin sits far away from where he has been most of his career. He has barely been able to crack into the Top 10s and week after week he has faced disappointments and bad luck.

But this is something Hamlin had already anticipated going into the 2022 season. “I mentioned before the season started that I believe everyone’s average finish is going to go down three or four points in general,” Hamlin said.

“I think that you have a year where you can be 10 or 11, you are going to be up front – as long as you get reasonable stage points – you are going to be contending for a regular-season championship.”

Denny Hamlin said he is not going to panic simply because of some bad luck. He insists that he’s confident and quite pleased with where the team is and how it’s progressing week to week.

This is surprising considering the fact he sits 27th in the points at this moment.
