The playoffs have been off to a great start. With the conclusion of the first elimination round, various storylines have appeared. This will benefit NASCAR since they hope to see more fans tuning in to watch the second round or join them in galleries of the tracks. The next venue on the playoff schedule is the Texas Motor Speedway, which promises to host an electric race next weekend.

However, recent reports suggest that there might be a decrease in NASCAR’s investment in a race in Texas this time around. Many fans often overlook the financial aspect of NASCAR races, but as the season progresses, we might see a variation in the payouts the authorities can offer.

Purses for the next playoff race are disclosed

Eminent journalist Bob Pockrass revealed in a recent post on Twitter that NASCAR is planning for a multi-million dollar budget for the upcoming race in Texas. According to the report, the total amount NASCAR is willing to allocate for next weekend is close to $10 million. Pockrass conveyed the information, as the tweet read,

“Purses for Texas weekend incl all payouts, all positions, incl all charter payouts for competing as well as three-year performance $$, contingency awards, contribution to year-end pts fund, etc.: Cup: $8,955,060 Xfinity: $1,377,593″.

The difference in budgets for Xfinity and Cup Series is reasonable and depends on the involvement of celebrities, sponsors, and more valuable teams. This translates into a disparity between the two amounts that grow to an estimated $8 million.

The expected expenditure also accounts for the funds that will be distributed as a part of NASCAR’s introduction of charters into the sport. The charter system pushes the sport closer to a franchise model and, in turn, helps some teams protect their spot in stock car racing’s best tournament.

NASCAR had already been to Texas earlier this year. The EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix was held at the Circuit of the Americas in March. 23XI Racing driver Tyler Reddick sealed his spot in the playoffs with a win here. However, Pockrass’ report from March suggests that during the regular season, NASCAR was ready to allocate a higher purse, although many different factors also weighed in.

The post from March read, “COTA purses (includes all payouts for all positions, the per-race for competing and three-year performance historical payouts to all charter teams, contributions from this race to season-ending points fund, etc.): Cup: $9,294,829 Xfinity: $1,695,270 Truck: $740,517″.

One thing to note is that some additional funds in March were also reserved for the Craftsman Truck Series. In spite of that, these numbers seem a bit low for the number of positions that will be financially rewarded at the end of the race.
