Reigning NASCAR Champion Kyle Larson Admits the Next-Gen Car Has “Surprised” Him

NASCAR saw a completely redesigned stock car this season. The engineers returned to the drawing boards and got to designing the cars that will compete in the Cup Series in 2022 with the new Aerodynamics, the new wheels, and a lot more.

However, it begs the question of whether the next-gen cars are even any good? Will they provide for better racing? The 2021 Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson had some thoughts to share after testing the next-gen cars.

Kyle Larson Says Hendrick Motorsports Teammate Alex Bowman Simply Had a Better Car in COTA

“As far as me driving the car, I was surprised it didn’t seem that much different here than the previous car,” said Larson. “The steering was maybe a little bit quicker. Just the little things all seemed to happened a little quicker. The moments when you got loose. Stuff like that.”

However, it seems like his views changed quite recently.

MRN’s NASCAR Live podcast recently featured Kyle Larson who shared his views on the 2022 Stock Cars.

Larson said, “Honestly, it’s been way better than I anticipated, and I think a lot of us anticipated. I thought dirty air would be impossible, I thought being behind people was gonna suck, and it’s been good. It’s been probably a little bit better than the previous in my opinion. So, I feel like that’s allowed the racing to be good, they feel really on edge.”

He then added, “We can get big runs down the straightaway. So, it’s kinda been a good mix of the old lower-sh downforce cars as well as the high downforce cars we had last year.”

In the end, it’s great to see the new generation of stock cars providing for better racing. Certainly, we can’t wait for more awesome racing.
