Trackhouse Racing has opened up an expanse of opportunities in NASCAR. When Shane van Gisbergen won the inaugural Chicago Street Race in 2023, the NASCAR community started paying more attention to supercar drivers from the Australian continent. The other Supercar professional to make his debut in 2023 was Brodie Kostecki. After a debut for Richard Childress Racing earlier, a move to NASCAR has been imminent.

Brodie Kostecki earned a P22 finish in his debut at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Richard Childress Racing. With SVG announcing his plans for a return in 2024, the ball was in Richard Childress’ court to reveal his cards. In recent news, the RCR team owner has unveiled his plans to help Kostecki race in some more races and, in the process, facilitate a full-time switch to American racing.

Richard Childress Racing and Brodie Kostecki’s current employer, Erebus Motorsport, share a healthy relationship. Over the past few years, Erebus has helped RCR create a solid road course program. Although that has yet to provide the NASCAR team with the desired results, it has created a portal for recruitment.

Speaking to V8 Sleuth about Kostecki’s debut at Indianapolis, the 78-year-old team owner claimed that the No. 33 team let him down. “We didn’t do him a good job, our team didn’t do him a good job,” said Childress.

“He didn’t get more than a couple of laps practice and he did good for no more practice than he had. Hopefully we can get him back over there and do him a lot better job and get him in the right situation.”

Brodie Kostecki is currently in pursuit of his maiden Supercar championship victory. He could be crowned the new champion as soon as this weekend. Richard Childress is also one of the guests at the Adelaide 500, which only gives Brodie more reason to impress his possible future employer.

Childress is pretty keen on recruiting Brodie in a full-time role. When questioned about when we could see Kostecki as a full-time driver in an RCR car, the team owner replied, “At some point”. His interest in bringing Brodie Kostecki has sparked a question within the community about Austin Hill’s role in the grand scheme. Should he move up to the Cup Series, RCR can field four formidable teams with a great mixture of talent and experience.

To ease the proceedings, Kostecki will also be joined by crew chiefs Barry Ryan, James White, and Brad Peckham in their adventures. The team could start as soon as next week at the World Racing League race at COTA. After spending his younger years competing in the junior leagues of NASCAR, Brodie shifted to West Australia soon after. However, life has come full circle for him as NASCAR calls him back through Richard Childress. The 26-year-old will have to run on oval tracks for a brief period to gain experience on them, and the plan is already in motion.

“We’re working on trying to put some stuff together now. We’d like to run him on a couple of the road courses and maybe even an oval. It’d be nice to see him on an oval too.” stated Richard Childress.

One take at a time

I instantly fell in love with the sport as I witnessed the cars' breakneck speeds and the robust nature of the sport and its drivers. As I had a deep-rooted interest in automobiles, the sport naturally piqued my interest in a jiffy. Kyle Busch and his cutthroat style of racing played an important role in getting me hooked to stock car racing as I hopped on streams to watch him win races.
