Chris Buescher was one of the major surprise packages of the NASCAR Cup Series 2023. Driving the No. 17 Ford Mustang for RFK Racing, Buescher was in the form of his life as he registered all personal best numbers, thus moving RFK Racing’s hopes and aspirations in the right direction. Despite not managing a podium finish, he was consistent throughout the year, which saw him advance to the Round of 8.

RFK Racing once had a successful and dominating decade during the 2001–2011 period where they racked up five Championship wins, out of which two back-to-back 2003 and 2004 seasons the team attained championship glory. In search of success, the new owner-driver Brad Keselowski has put his faith in Chris Buescher, and by the looks of it, the future is indeed looking bright. Especially on the back of what was a positive 2023 run.

Consistency is the formula for success; this is the phrase commonly thrown around, but it is easier said than done. Luckily, for RFK Racing, Chris Buescher took this message to heart and registered his first playoff entry since 2016. An entry that gave him 3 wins at Daytona, Michigan, and Richmond, which was followed by a total of 17 top-ten finishes. This was his personal best for a single season that was capped by the overall finish at No. 7.

Buescher’s peak performances were not only reflected on the racetracks but also on the statistics sheets. A report laid out by BuildingSpeed highlighted the number of races in the entire 2023 NASCAR Cup Series, and what caught everyone’s eye was Chris Buescher’s lap runs. Out of 9,375 laps, the 31-year-old ran 9,225 laps. This signifies how flawless his run throughout the season was.

Another interesting stat also revealed how well Chris Buescher weaved his way through the tracks to avoid any major collisions or cautions. Out of all the caution involvement last season, he was only involved in 5 cautions, the lowest by any racer for the entirety of the 2023 season. Topping the charts for better reason once again, he was among the racers with the fewest penalties received, just 3 to his name.

Brad Keselowski, who is looking to turn the tides at RFK Racing, has already zeroed in on Chris Buescher as his best bet for the resurgence. A move that looks promising for the upcoming years.

After delivering his career-best 7th place finish, Buescher, for a brief period, put his team, RFK Racing, in conversation to look out for the end of the season. Although the tables might not have turned on their heads right now, the new owner-driver, Brad Keselowski, had seen the potential of a championship driver in Buescher.

I knew coming into RFK that Chris was kind of a hidden gem. I feel like he just needs to be surrounded by the right people with the right equipment. We’ve done that for him, and he’s blossomed into the person I throughout he always could be.”
