Racing can take different shapes. With a difference in perception and passion, it can be a hobby, a profession, or even a way of life. For Kenny Wallace, it certainly is the latter. Herman is a fountain of stories, insights, and the designated advisor in the NASCAR community. Bringing forth exciting anecdotes, spicy conversations with drivers, and addressing the concerns of the sport, Kenny has become one of the most vocal members of the community. However, what is it that keeps him going?

On being questioned by one of his friends, Don, Kenny Wallace was instigated into reiterating his love for racing. But apart from that, he also had to explain his life outside of the race track. In a recent upload on his YouTube channel, the Missouri Sports Hall of Famer had to draw a comparison with seven-time Cup Series champion Richard Petty to prove his point.

Apart from occasional dirt racing competitions, Kenny can be seen hosting talk shows with his former colleagues or current drivers. He has also been essential to fan-service events, facilitating interaction between drivers and the fandom. In short, he has remained quite close to racing even after retirement. Reminiscing about one of the days when his friend Don rang him up to convey a message about his unhappiness with Kenny Wallace’s affinity for racing, Kenny revealed,

“This guy wanted to talk, but he was taking it out on me. Don was mad at me because I like racing. First of all, I said to him, ‘Listen, when I do social media, I only let you see what I want you to see.‘ I do Coffee with Kenny, the Kenny Wallace Show, and the Kenny Conversation. I said, ‘Buddy, there’s a lot more to me than just that damn social media’.”

Apart from his racing life, Kenny has shown interest in extra-curricular activities like bike riding events with his elder brother, Rusty Wallace. Moving on with the conversation, Kenny highlighted the same as he started to get livid about Don questioning his life. He also cited Richard Petty‘s evergreen connection with NASCAR and mentioned how the veteran has remained active in the garage decades after his retirement. Kenny quipped that Don should’ve called ‘The King’ and advised him instead.

“He’s mad at me because I like racing. I responded to him. I said, ‘You’re mad at me ’cause I like racing, which in your eyes is all I do’, which is false. I do way more than just race. I said, ‘Why don’t you look at Richard Petty?’ I said, ‘That son of a b***h is 80-something years old, and he’s in a NASCAR Cup garage every week. Call him up and chew his a** out’.”

As the video continued, Kenny divulged that with time, he has understood the reasoning behind Don’s concerns about his love for racing and also equated it with his brother’s thought process.

Kenny Wallace is the youngest among a trio of brothers. Rusty and Mike Wallace have also made a name for themselves during their times in NASCAR. Despite that, one of them has frowned upon Kenny’s love for racing, in a similar fashion to Don. Speaking about the same, Kenny stated,

“The only reason I had an inkling of what he’s talking about is… I’ve got a brother that’s pi**ed at me because I like racing still. Here’s the bottom line: when you have a friend that really likes doing something, don’t get mad at them because they like doing something, and you don’t have anything to do.”

Considering his age, Kenny Wallace could be forced to opt out of his racing ventures in the future. When age catches up, it is often hard for a person and his close ones to see them participate in something that can be fatal on a bad day. There may be some substance to Don’s argument, but having been in the thick of the sport for most of his life, Kenny’s chances of heeding his advice are low.

I instantly fell in love with the sport as I witnessed the cars' breakneck speeds and the robust nature of the sport and its drivers. As I had a deep-rooted interest in automobiles, the sport naturally piqued my interest in a jiffy. Kyle Busch and his cutthroat style of racing played an important role in getting me hooked to stock car racing as I hopped on streams to watch him win races.
