23XI has majorly thrived on the dedicated work of two drivers: Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace. The No. 23 and the No. 45 teams work intimately together given the friendly workplace that Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan have fostered at 23XI. The racers have hauled the teams to the forefront of Cup races, and know each other well.

However, being so close to each other also means being prone to each other’s faults. Both Reddick and Wallace have clashed at times on the track, and both are vocal about it. Reddick recently spilled the beans on the unique equation he maintains with his teammate.

Tyler Reddick diplomatically wades through teammate’s territory

The relationship between racing teammates is a bumpy road, facing ups and downs. Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace majorly have a friendly equation. Wallace recently roasted Reddick about his height, and the latter played along well. However, things often turn serious at the track, as both drive under a lot of pressure.

Recently, Kevin Harvick questioned Reddick about his relationship with Bubba. Reddick observed that the situation varies each weekend. “On some weekends, we’re very very aligned on driving style and approach, and others, there’s quite a bit of difference. I wouldn’t say when we are apart it probably hurts us, it probably helps us. Because more times than not, the cars show up pretty much identical every single weekend.”

He further detailed: “But on the occasions when we do drive a bit differently, it’s really helpful that the cars are so close. Because Bubba’s approach might be a tenth better in turns 1 and 2, my approach might be better in turns 3 and 4. We’re able to compare…so that’s been beneficial.”

Reddick summed up by giving brownie points to their blooming relationship. “I feel like as teammates, there will be a time and place when we’ll race each other hard. But when we know one is better than the other, or someone’s needing the spot more than the other, we do a really good job of just being good teammates.”

Back in March 2023, Reddick fetched a win at Circuit of the Americas, and Wallace did not take it well. Not being able to clinch a post-season spot for two years, he oozed self-defeat on social media.

However, Wallace seems to be forming a more solid rapport with his teammate in 2024.

In 2023, Tyler Reddick made the longest championship run of his career. He rounded out the year with two wins, 10 top fives, and 16 top tens. Wallace also had a career-best season, qualifying for the playoffs for the first time with 10 top-10 finishes. As the new year came, Wallace was all praises for his teammate.

“I think moving forward, with Tyler having a year with us and figuring it all out, I think it’s only going to expedite the process on where we want to be. I think, there’s a lot of races where we were the top-performing two as a team, and I think we want to do that more. And so, we’ve got all the right people in the right spot.”

All said and done, it is evident that the 23XI team is working hard to be the best NASCAR Cup team. Reddick and Wallace’s teamwork, if not exemplary, is certainly in the works.
