He exuded confidence even before the race weekend started. This is what he said in an interview ahead of the weekend. “I am looking forward to this weekend at New Hampshire. This will be my first time on the track, so I am hoping the weather holds off on Friday to get some practice laps in. The track is pretty flat & bumpy. Joe Gibbs Racing has seen some success at this track recently, so I know our #18 TMC Toyota GR Supra will be fast. We’re looking to learn a lot and have a solid run on Saturday.”

He qualified in 7th but had to go to the back of the field due to unapproved adjustments on his car. From there, he managed to win the second stage and finished the race in 5th.

Speaking in a post-race interview, as per thepodiumfinish.net, Smith said, “It was a solid day coming back from the back twice. One, we had an oil leak and then I put myself in a hole on pit road. So, good day overall, just thought we had a shot there just kind of fell off and didn’t work out.”
