Bubba Wallace hooking and shoving Kyle Larson in Vegas has really divided the NASCAR community, not on whether it was right or acceptable, no. It’s, in fact, the punishment that NASCAR handed the 23XI Racing driver for what he did.

What Wallace received as a response for his retaliation was a one-race suspension.

Now, there were some who thought this was appropriate, some wondered if NASCAR could’ve added some financial and points factor too. But then there was Kyle Petty, who suggested the #23 (currently #45) driver should’ve been parked for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Petty’s hot-take again divided the community. Was he being too harsh? Is it justified, this severe of a punishment?

However, those who are questioning the former driver, if they look back, they’ll realize how consistent he has been in these kinds of situations with his opinion. Just consider what he said about Jeff Gordon a decade ago.

Kyle Petty’s brutal Jeff Gordon take

In 2012, Jeff Gordon had intentionally wrecked Clint Bowyer at Phoenix as a form of retaliation for which he received, a massive, $100,000 fine and a 25 points penalty.

But this, according to Kyle Petty, wasn’t enough.

“Oh yeah,” Petty responded to a suggestion of whether Gordon deserved more than what he got. “His b*tt should be sitting in his apartment.”

“When you look at the #24, the #24 should have been parked. But I said it the other night, they’re not gonna park him because he is JEFF GORDON, they’re not gonna park him,” Petty emphasized.

“A $100,000 and 25 points when you’re already falling like a rock and you’ve already got more money than God, it doesn’t make any difference.”

Speaking about his one-race suspension penalty, Kyle Petty didn’t hold back one bit about what Bubba Wallace should’ve got instead.

He should have been suspended for the rest of the year. Rest of the year,” Petty said. “He turns a guy in the right rear into the outside wall intentionally. Steering brake?”

“That’s laughable.”

Petty even went on to say that intentionally wrecking someone in itself is a suspension. Add to that, Wallace’s following actions of walking across the racetrack, which naturally isn’t safe, calls for “another suspension.”

Do you think NASCAR could consider extending Bubba Wallace’s penalty? Or will he simply get away with a one-race suspension?
