American football is one of the most religiously followed sports in the country. The recent change in ownership for Washington Commanders has been a topic of discussion for avid followers of the sport. And excited about the news is none other than Joe Gibbs—one of the most legendary football coaches of all time.

Joe has been a fan of the Commanders for a long time and has been quite vocal about it. In a recent interview with Fox 5, he talks about his undying support for the NFL franchise, in addition to harmless jokes and sarcasm which add some much-needed light moments to the fast-paced sport of racing.

Joe Gibbs’ cheerful side, though not rare, but is always a great sight to withhold. The Joe Gibbs Racing team owner has often been spotted cracking jokes and having a laugh. In another such instance, he jokingly talks about the criteria to stay on his team.

Joe Gibbs runs Washington Commanders’ propaganda in the team camp

The Commanders have undergone a transformation following their rebranding. They were known as Washington Redskins till 2019. Having coached them to three Super Bowl wins before making a move to NASCAR as a team owner, the reason for Gibbs’s allegiance is understandable.

Talking to correspondents Wisdom Martin and Steve Chenevey in a conference with Fox 5, Joe talked about the conditions that need to be met to stay on the team. Further affirming his support for the Commanders, he said, “I’m gonna be cheering hard, we got everybody here in our complex. I only hire somebody if they are a Commander. If you want to get fired here, say you are a Cowboy fan.

Expressing his delight over a change in ownership, Gibbs looked to be in a great mood. Having served in the NFL for 12 years till 1993, he is considered one of the best coaches in the history of the league—a rare distinction that he has to his name is being the only coach to win three Super Bowl trophies with three different quarterbacks starting.

The pattern for his support of the Redskins is quite the thing, as it seems the Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee likes some Commanders fans in the dugout.

Further adding to the friendly exchange, Chenevey asked Joe if Hamlin’s support for league rivals Dallas Cowboys is something excusable. It’s common knowledge that the 23XI Racing co-owner keeps close tabs on the Cowboys. While Cowboys and Commanders share a history of bad blood on the pitch, the question remains if Hamlin and Joe Gibbs share something similar between them.

“We know your driver Denny Hamlin has been a fan forever. So I’m hoping that he is still onboard but it sounds like if he is still driving for ya, he is still a Washington fan,” Chenevey queried.

From the looks of it, Joe knows what side he belongs to—the Cowboys or the Commanders. The NFL rivalry may be one of the best rivalries in their history, but Joe has no doubts about who he favors.
