“I was in there whole three years I just was not on the scene cause there was no scene happening. It was too slow-moving. Like when I started fighting there was somebody who was the guy who was the man I am gonna fight and show people I can beat that guy. But there was no guy.” said Nate Diaz addressing his inactivity from the sports for those three years.

After the rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, McGregor went on to be one of the biggest stars in combat sports. On the other hand, Diaz was offered “No-Named” opponents. Diaz said:

“When the UFC was talking to me about.. people they were giving me like no-name opponents. When I lost to Conor which I don’t believe I lost, they sent him to the stars. He is fighting Floyd Mayweather, he is getting two titles, he is taking time off and then you get to fight ranked 27 fighters or whatever the case was. I am above all that, I don’t need to work my way up for nothing. So I am gonna sit back here and work with my team.”

Nate Diaz claims that he always wanted to fight Jorge Masvidal, however, UFC never promoted him rightly. However, the win over Askren made Diaz believe that Jorge Masvidal is the next top guy that he wanted to fight. Nate Diaz said:

“They were trying to give the other guy the credit, blow him up, the next big thing and everybody was eating it up. He(Ben Askren) was talking and it was irritating and then he is fighting Masvidal and I was thinking like man that guy should not even get to fight Masvidal. He is a way more seasoned, more experienced, more legendary fighter than this guy anyway. Then when he went out there and did it and how he did it. and Now we got a guy on our hands. Before that ain’t nothing was happening, everybody was stagnant and boring.

Nate Diaz called out Jorge Masvidal after his dominant win over Anthony Pettis in UFC 241, which lead to the BMF title fight between Diaz and Masvidal.
