The most anticipated fight of the year, Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz ended in a controversial doctor’s stoppage. The fight was as advertised, pure violence from start to finish. Jorge Masvidal was more dominant and won the first three rounds on the judges’ scorecards. However, Nate Diaz was still in the fight going into the fourth round.

Early in the fight, Masvidal hit Diaz with an elbow produced a cut under Diaz’s eye. That cut became more gruesome as the fight progresses. In the end, the doctors present at the ringside called the fight off and Masvidal was crowned with the BMF title by Dwayne Johnson.

However, both Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz called for a rematch as soon as they got on the microphone. Masvidal seemed disappointed with the way the fight ended and he assured the crowd that he would run it back with Diaz soon. Even Diaz issued a statement: “I am coming back for your a** Motherf*****” in the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. However, it is unlikely that we are going to see the rematch any time soon.

In the post-fight press conference, UFC president, Dana White ended all the possibilities of a rematch between Masvidal and Diaz. Talking about the doctor’s stoppage, Dana White said:

“It happens in this game. These things happen. At first, I was bitching and pissed off. They did not stop the Tyson Fury fight and that cut was nasty. Then I walked back and saw Nate Diaz and his eyebrow was flipped over in front of his eye and he got another huge cut under his eyes. And I started thinking it’s easy to sitting over my chair and thinking the fight should not be stopped.”

Afterward, when asked about whether the rematch interests him, Dana White replied:

“No, it does not interest me right away. I got asked a couple of questions. Diaz comes on the later round of this fight, later if they did not stop it, but it did not. It got stopped with cuts and Masvidal looked very dominant and he looked good. He had nothing but great fights this year. If anybody is the fighter of 2019 is definitely that kid and he has some big options coming his way.”

There is no denying that Jorge Masvidal was dominating the entire fight, but it seemed Diaz was making a comeback at the final minutes of the fight. Although understandably, Dana White does not want to run it again it’s safe to assume that fans want to see the rematch.
