In 2013, the Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets traded their respective players with each other. The Celtics sent their aging Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets in exchange for five players and 3 first-round picks. As a result of this blockbuster trade, the Celtics were able to pick up Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Therefore, with the three first-round picks in hand, at first, the Celtics picked up Brown in the 2016 NBA draft. Subsequently, in the next year, they picked up Tatum.
