The NBA world can be a heartless critic. Players are hailed for their brilliance but not spared if they fail to deliver. The No.1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Victor Wembanyama was no exception.

Victor Wembanyama was hailed as the greatest draft prospect since LeBron James and fans could not wait to watch him on an NBA court. The 19-year-old also had huge expectations riding on him with fans considering him a generational talent and the next big thing. However, in his very first game with the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Summer League, Wembanyama had to face the wrath of the fans.

The No.1 draft pick had an underwhelming outing in his Summer League debut. Playing 27 minutes in the game, Wembanyama put up a mere 9 points and secured 8 rebounds.

He shot a poor 15.4% throughout the game going 2 for 13 from the field. He had an impressive defensive presence putting up 5 blocks but could not get going on the offensive end.

After the game, Wembanyama had some words about his performance. “I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court, but I’m trying to learn,” Wemby said.

The fans were not having it with these humble words and took to Twitter to brutally criticize the teen sensation.

Frenchman Faced Fan Fury

Victoria Wenbrickyama is a generational bust,” wrote one user, also mocking the Frenchman’s name.

Another user claimed he “Said since day 1, this dude is gonna be a complete BUST.” 

One user wrote “You said what NOW” referring to his words after the game.

However, Wembanyama did receive some compassion from some users who tried to urge fans to give him time. A fan wrote, “give the guy time to grow, ion even like him but it’s his first game“.

Another fan shared the same opinion saying “he’s young like any other player like him grow“.

The soft-spoken French baller was earlier offering his take on the slapgate controversy involving singer Britney Spears.
