After losing a heartbreaker at MSG on Monday, the entire Philadelphia 76ers squad was distraught, heading back home for Game 3. But no one was affected more by the loss than Kelly Oubre Jr. because his nightmare didn’t end in New York, as he was involved in a car crash just hours after the brutal 104-101 loss. Now fortunately, the accident resulted in no casualties, but it did make Oubre rethink his driving situation.

While the Sixers celebrated their Game 3 home win against the Knicks tonight, Oubre broke silence about his late-night car crash, “Everything is good. I’m okay. The people that were involved are okay, but I’m gonna need to probably get a driver or something and just stay off the roads and behind the wheel but everything is good.”

Although no one was injured in the crash, Oubre’s beloved Lamborghini was wrecked. And it might have been the Sixers star’s fault as police in Philadelphia revealed Oubre “disregarded a red traffic signal” which led to his car hitting another. So maybe, the 28-year-old should take some time off driving, and let a professional take over while he focuses on playing basketball. And not only did Oubre jeopardize his life, but a major injury could also have put the Sixers’ season in danger.

Had Oubre been injured in Tuesday’s crash, the Sixers would have lost a productive starter for tonight’s game. Scoring 15 points while dishing out three assists and grabbing seven boards, Oubre was big in Game 3. And his performance played a part in the Sixers defeating the Knicks at home.

Kelly Oubre Jr. has been in this situation before

Not long ago, Oubre was involved in another road accident, but that time he was on the receiving end of the crash. Reportedly hit by a car while roaming the streets of Philadelphia, Oubre was a victim of a hit and run case in November. And that incident left him with a broken rib and multiple injuries, causing him to miss a major chunk of the regular season. That, along with Embiid’s injury, caused the Sixers to lose several games that they could have won if they were completely healthy.

And further adding more controversy to the situation, police never found the footage evidence of a car hitting Oubre and fleeing the scene. With that, the NBA World accused Oubre of making up the story, to get out of a tough situation with the Sixers.

However, Kelly responded to the conspiracy theorists, saying, “This was and is a very traumatic situation for me and my family.” Also comparing his life to Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show, “So, I just wish that my life wasn’t like ‘The Truman Show’ where everybody kind of watched it and have their own opinion about my life.”

With another incident putting unnecessary spotlight on Oubre, maybe it is really time for him to get a driver and stay off the road for a while.
