The Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett had a verbal altercation with ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith. The point Garnett tried to make was that legends like Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson are retired and they are the past of the sport. However, the new generation is keeping the sport interesting and deserves appreciation and a place in the GOAT debate. Smith had his own set of views on that argument and his own picks in the GOAT debate, which included Michael Jordan.
Because of the differing views, Smith and Garnett had a vocal disagreement. Reacting to this, the mom of LeBron James’ NBA ‘nephew’ expressed her opinion on the same. A former NBA basketball champion also reacted.

Sporting personalities react to the verbal war between KG and Smith
After the heated argument between the 15x All-Star and ESPN’s most provocative analyst, the world had two sides to choose from. The mother of Houston Rockets star Tari Eason, who LeBron James once called his ‘nephew’, called Kevin Garnett the greatest power-forward (pf) of all time, both “respectfully and disrespectfully”.
KG the greatest pf of all time. Respectfully and disrespectfully.☘️ https://t.co/uTqT3612kp

How Michael Jordan led to the heated argument
Both Garnett and Smith know the intricacies of basketball. However, they have different opinions about the GOATs in the league. While the Boston Celtics legend thinks that the young generation is being under-appreciated by the NBA world, the ESPN analyst feels respect for one does not mean disrespect to the other.
Garnett said, “We gotta get over this. Michael Jordan, Magic, they are the past. We gotta embrace this new-ish. We need to embrace this greatness that’s before us. Excuse my French, but f**k what’s happened last year.”
However, Smith had another viewpoint on the whole situation. He said, “If I sit up there and I say of the thousands of the thousands of the thousands of players. I think MJ is number 1 and LeBron James is number 2 of all time. Whether you disagree or agree with me, I’m not disrespecting you by saying you are number 2 of all time”.

To which KG said, “That’s what that says when you say that”. Smith then asked Garnet as to why he thought that. And KG gave him the example of Stephen Curry. He said, “We ain’t never seen a Steph Curry. We’ve never seen a brother 38, average 30, and then get 39000(points). We’ve never seen that.”
Smith countered Garnett and said, “But we did see a motherf***er sit up there, we did see a motherf***er win three-peat twice. After three-peating, then took a year and a half off, came back and three-peated again. That’s no insulting anybody.”

Both KG and Smith made some valid points. Legends of the sport have achieved some things the newer generation has yet not. That is why they are in the history books of the sport forever. But that does not discredit any of the work and accolades achieved by the newer generation and they too deserve an equal amount of respect as the legends. However, what do you think about this argument? Is Kevin Garnett right or Stephen A. Smith? Let us know in the comments below.
