With the aces of the league getting ready to take the 2024 Paris Olympics by storm, the budding talents are firmly establishing themselves in the NBA. The Minnesota front office made a strategic move, securing a college basketball sensation to strengthen their lineup. And guess what? they struck gold. They found a superstar in the making who captivated the audience right from his debut.

The T’Wolves tipped off their summer league campaign in Las Vegas against the Pelicans on Friday. Terrence Shannon Jr., the 27th overall draft pick, made sure the lights were only on him as the rookie racked up 25 points. But apart from his performance, something else also caught the eyes of the hoopers and gaming fanatics. They spotted a tattoo on TSJ’s left forearm. A fan identified the tattoo as a cheat code from the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series, valued at $8 billion. T’Wolves’ social media team later confirmed it via an X post, and since then the fans haven’t stopped talking about it.

Fans react to Anthony Edwards’ new running mate’s body art

The Timberwolves’ admin posted a picture that showed the lettering of the tattoo clearly. It read, “Le Heat Le Lock Le Freak”, with button commands to activate the cheat code. “Unlimited Ammo,” a user commented on the thread. A subtle nod to Shannon Jr.’s shooting prowess and the purpose of the cheat code. The command for the code gives the player unlimited ammo in GTA: Vice City. In Shannon’s case, that seems to be the mantra with his 9-14 shooting in the game.

“This man needs a sponsorship deal from @RockstarGames for this,” a second one commented. In case you are less versed in gaming, Rockstar Games are responsible for the production of the game. Thanks to Shannon, they got a shout-out without spending a penny and if Anthony Edwards’ new teammate turns out to be as good as him, they just might want to tie him up with a deal.

A third user wrote, “Would be tough to read when you need it tho lol,” indicating Shannon might not come up clutch when needed the most. Having doubts about a rookie’s clutch gene might not be too out of the line for any fan, but if this performance was a trailer, they can surely rest assured.

“Unlimited Ammo on your shooting arm unfortunately is COLD as fuck,” a T’Wolves follower retweeted. In case you knew or guessed it by now, Shannon is indeed a lefty. His predominant use of left hand while shooting gives a different dimension to his game, as there aren’t many left-hand shooters in the league. Guarding a lefty also causes difficulties for the opponents, as most of them are used to guard right-handed players.

Given the tournament is being played in Vegas, it adds another layer to his performance. GTA games are generally focused on a storyline in a city modeled around cities like Las Vegas, LA (Los Santos in GTA 5). For the Timberwolves, it also gives a unique opportunity to have Anthony Edwards, a right-hand shooter, and Shannon, a lefty, on the floor together to cause all sorts of problems. This is only a start, but if Anthony Edwards is keeping tabs on him, he probably is grinning ear-to-ear at the prospect of having a catch-and-shoot player alongside him next season.
