Oscar Tshiebwe, the 24-year-old Indiana rookie, took the spotlight tonight as he made short work of Victor Wembanyama. The Congolese native, after going undrafted in 2023, split his time with the Pacers and G League Indiana Mad Ants. For the Panini Rising Stars Challenge, he is representing Team Detlef, as they took the win vs Team Pau.

But almost all will know Tshiebwe as the rookie for whom the Pacers spoiled Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s career night on December 13, 2023. The whole game-ball drama unwinded that night because Indiana wanted to gift the game ball to their rookie, Oscar Tshiebwe, for scoring his first NBA points.

But the Bucks wanted the same for Giannis, who had a brilliant 64-point game! He also had 14 rebounds and three assists that night. Yet, that was overshadowed as the “Greek Freak” was seen running visibly upset at losing his game ball!

The chaos that ensued was nothing short of dramatic. From players getting into heated verbal altercations, pushing and shoving, and whatnot. Coach Carlisle said that their GM got elbowed in the ribs by one of Milwaukee’s players. He was pretty sure that Horst had a bruised rib.

Anyhow, the ball reached Antetokounmpo’s hands finally. And Oscar will have to wait for his turn. But for now, it seems like the Kentucky product has a different prey in mind.

Tshiebwe got the best of Victor Wembanyama-led Team Pau

Going into the Panini Rising Stars Challenge, Wemby and Team Pau were given to advance to the final showdown. But in a surprising turn of events, the G League players, captained by Detlef, took point this time. But Ignite’s Matas Buzelis’s baseline jumper sealed the deal for the “generational talent” and his squad.

But what was even more embarrassing was an incident involving Oscar Tshiebwe and the young big man. In what would have been brilliant gameplay, Wembanyama tried to put the ball in between Tshiebwe’s legs and get the ball off the other end.

It would have been successful if the 6’8 260-pound Oscar didn’t stand his ground. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, that did not happen, and it turned into something of a Shaqtin’ a Fool moment. But that still does not reduce the hype and popularity of the ‘Extraterrestrial’.
