Paparazzi, media scrutiny, and a camera in your face without regard for your comfort – that is the life of a famous personality. So it’s important to be careful about how you present yourself. And that’s exactly what went wrong for Ja Morant. The sudden fame and wealth at such a young age must have felt invincible, but unfortunately, the Grizzlies superstar learned it wasn’t so; the hard way.

Back on the court for the first time tonight since his 25-game suspension, Ja and Memphis battled the New Orleans Pelicans, coming out as winners with a score of 115-113. Ahead of the game, Stephen A. Smith, though, had some advice for the young guard.

Stephen A. gives his two cents to Ja Morant for a stable future

In his Stephen A. Smith Show, he pointed out a vital lesson that is predominantly meant for Morant but can be followed by everyone. “Ja Morant is a superstar. But with being a superstar, comes super responsibility.”

He goes on to explain a fundamental truth about the way the world works. When one works for an organization that pays your bills (in the case of NBA players, the lavish lifestyle as well), it is necessary to follow the stipulations put forward by them. That’s just how the relationship goes – a two-way road.

The sooner Morant understands this and acts the same, his life will be smoother. Well, as smooth as a celebrity athlete’s life can go, that is. By now, everybody is well aware of the circumstances leading up to his suspension. But here’s a quick recap – On May 14th, Morant and a few friends were live on Instagram, brandishing firearms.

The result of such a “detrimental conduct” was the 25-game suspension. While Morant couldn’t take part in any matchups, he could still practice with the team. And a good thing too. Having an out-of-shape Ja Morant is the last thing the Memphis Grizzlies need now.

The Grizzlies’ state of affairs without Morant so far

Ranking in the 13th position in the Western Conference, the Grizzlies are 6-19. Though they fare much better than the San Antonio Spurs (4-21), as of now, they are on a five-game losing streak. Memphis also holds the worst offensive rating in the league, standing at 30 with 105.9.

Also, the last in points per game this season (105.6 ppg), the Volunteer State’s nightmares were all too real. Missing Marcus Smart since November 14 hasn’t particularly worked out in their favor yet. With the exception of Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr., no other Grizzlies player has averaged more than 12.5 points per game.

Tonight’s game saw the Grizzlies make a comeback, breaking their 5-game skid. Morant landed 34 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in 35 minutes of game-time. It was a great night for Memphis!
