When you think of Greece, what is the first thing that comes to mind? The Acropolis? Maybe Greek salad? But considering you are a basketball fan, the answer would likely be Giannis Antetokounmpo—the greatest player to come out of the nation. Thanks to his insane length and freakish athleticism, he has rightfully earned the nickname The Greek Freak. However, one harmless image has raised Giannis’ competition.
Yes, CBS Miami’s Trish Christakis took the internet by storm when she posted her final live shot from the Heat’s season. “Year 3! What a season for the Miami Heat, thankful. Thank you, Aaron Visions for snapping this pic during my last live shot this season!” she wrote. Although it was supposed to be a simple closing post to yet another successful season of coverage for Trish, it ended up being a lot more. The sideline reporter’s picture, donning a stunning black dress, instantly went viral. As of now, her tweet has 11 million views and over 120K likes. The three-year CBS veteran turned into an overnight sensation. But what’s really going viral right now is a new nickname Christakis earned.
Turns out, she was dubbed ‘The Greek Freak 2.0’ because of her Greek roots. Trish addressed it with a hilarious tweet: “So apparently TV stations in Greece are calling me Greek freak 2.0 might be the funniest thing to come out of this.” Further proving her claim, the reporter also shared a clip on her Instagram story of a Greek TV station discussing her viral image.

While this instant fame could skyrocket Trish’s media career, it certainly puts Giannis in a tough spot. That’s because now, he is not the only Greek Freak anymore. Although Trish was born in Illinois, she reportedly has Greek American heritage. So, the connection to the new nickname is understandable. However, Giannis is unlikely to feel threatened by it, considering how humble and selfless he is. In fact, he would be rather ecstatic to see another person from his nation rising to success.
Meanwhile, Trish is not planning on stealing the Bucks star’s thunder, either.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Trish Christakis the new face of Greek pride, or does Giannis still hold the crown?

Trish Christakis deems Giannis Antetokounmpo the “GOAT” as she reveals plans following Heat’s early exit
Although Trish is riding along with her sudden virality and the new nickname, she realizes that Giannis has the primary right to the Greek Freak tag. Replying to one of the comments on her viral tweet, the CBS reporter revealed how honored she was to get the same nickname, “Giannis is the GOAT (next to MJ) so it is to me!” Yes, she put Giannis in the same ranks as the legendary Michael Jordan, deeming them her GOATs.
Of course, Giannis Antetokounmpo has played a massive role in globalizing the NBA, especially spreading its reach in Greece. And he is arguably the most dominant player of this era, in terms of size and athleticism. So, calling him the GOAT based on his impact is not a far-fetched idea. Moreover, Trish is not letting this fame take priority over her career aspirations, as she has already begun preparing for her next challenge.
Well, she will no longer be covering the Heat as their season is already over with a brutal first-round exit. So, Trish revealed her plan going forward, with a tweet, “lol hello thank you for the love! Anyways… go Panthers, onto playoff hockey!”
