For the first time in twenty years, neither one of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, or Kevin Durant, has advanced to the second round of the playoffs. Because of that, their respective teams are facing a lot of uncertainty and several questions about the moves they should make this summer. Even Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, who is famous for mispronouncing names on Live TV, got the names of the Suns and Warriors head coaches mixed up in confusion and somehow blamed Frank Vogel for Stephen Curry and Co.’s failure.

While discussing which team between the Lakers and the Warriors would have a better future during The Dan Patrick Show, Barkley said, “I don’t feel good about either. They both stink.” Further diving into his point, Barkley claimed, like always, both teams will throw their head coaches under the bus. And then, he made a huge blunder without skipping a beat, “It’s not Darvin Ham or Frank Vogel that the reason the Warriors and the Lakers suck.” Yes, Frank Vogel is not the reason the Warriors were bad this year, because he is not even their head coach. Instead of naming Steve Kerr, Barkley mistakenly threw Vogel under the bus.

Surprisingly, Patrick also failed to notice Barkley’s mistake and continued the conversation. Funnily enough, moments later, Barkley said the same thing when asked about the Suns’ future. “They’re (Phoenix Suns) probably gonna throw Frank Vogel overboard, but it’s not his fault.” Although it was a funny moment during the conversation, it was an honest mistake from the Hall of Famer and didn’t do any harm.

Charles Barkley might have a point despite his blunder

Sir Charles might have mixed up the names in confusion, but the point he was trying to make held a lot of weight. Pinpointing why both teams struggled this year, he said, “The Warriors got old and the Lakers got old. Nothing you can do about it.” With LeBron nearing the age of forty, Steph at thirty-six and Durant at thirty-five, all three superstars are in the later stages of their careers. And regardless of how great these players are, defeating Father Time is a feat that no one has ever been able to accomplish.

Meanwhile, with young players like Anthony Edwards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on the rise, it is getting harder for the aging superstars to keep up with the competition. So, unless the Lakers, Warriors, and Suns make a drastic change to improve their roster and somehow get younger, Barkley believes they won’t be up to any good next season as well.

As Barkley always says, “Sports ain’t for old people. They’re for young people.” the three superstars might have to accept the fact that they need more help in the future, and firing their head coaches might not solve the lingering problems.
