While Tyrese Maxey and Philadelphia fans might be overjoyed at the results of the Most Improved Player award, there are still several others who think Maxey does not deserve it. No, not because he has in some way got on their bad side. It’s simply because they believe the Chicago Bulls guard, Coby White, deserved it more. And it was a close call, too. There was only a 14-point difference in their total votes (319-305). But it is what it is.

And this season was Maxey’s. And yet, no one can contest that he has been nothing short of remarkable for the Sixers throughout the year. With superstar center, Joel Embiid appearing in just 39 games, the 23-year-old has carried the offense and the team on his back like a true champ.

Unfortunately, White’s snub doesn’t sit well with many. And they took to X to showcase their disapproval. A stunned fan, for instance, wrote, “Coby robbed wtf.”

Maxey received the honor ahead of not just White, but Alperen Sengun, too. The 2023-24 was considered a breakout season for the Rockets center as he stepped up in a big way for a fast-declining Houston team. He finished third in the voting, with 92 points. As for the 24-year-old Coby, who received the most ballot numbers, earned the nickname “People’s MIP.”

And looking at his stats from this and last season should give us an idea of why it was so.

Maxey, though, checks all the boxes in the latest achievement in what has been a trend in the NBA. Everyone after CJ McCollum has been a first-time All-Star, a first-round pick, and in his first five seasons in the league. McCollum checked the last two, but he’s yet to get his All-Star nod. Couple that with Maxey surpassing the high expectations, and he seemed to be the natural choice as a winner. Here’s a look at his stats.

Well, the anger of many NBA fans at the slight might make a little sense now, but the results are in and Tyrese Maxey is the MIP of the season. But that has never stopped fans from recording their opinions, has it now?

While this might have been good news, the 76ers didn’t have a great night in the Game 2 matchup with the Knicks. Especially with regard to Tyrese Maxey. Embiid had been genuinely frustrated with the refs and the officiating. He didn’t hold back during the post-game presser, either. To add insult to the injury, the Last Two Minute report confirmed that Maxey hadn’t been fouled once, but twice.

Hopefully, they can get back on the winning wagon in Game 3.
