DaBaby was visibly battling when Shannon Sharpe asked him to choose his favorite young NBA stars. Moments after the rapper was all praise for Hornets‘ LaMelo Ball, he took a solid 15 seconds and a few drinks before taking a side.

NFL legend Shannon Sharpe hosted DaBaby in his weekly podcast and threw the baffling question on the best under-25 player in the NBA. Although the rapper finally had a say, he acknowledged the question was a tricky one.

DaBaby was feeling pretty comfortable talking about Hornets’ star LaMelo Ball, and he was full of praise for the point guard. But that came to an abrupt end when Sharpe unexpectedly asked him who DaBaby had to pick from the pack of LaMelo Ball, Luka Doncic, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, Chet Holmgren, and Victor Wembanyama, for the best NBA star under 25.

The rapper went silent and his head went down. He gave it a lengthy thought, reacted by saying “That’s a conflicting question“, and went back to his drinks before finally answering it. “Imma go with ‘Melo, I’m rocking with the home”, DaBaby, dressed up in a Hornets jersey, answered.

He further explained that despite his choice, he admired Luka and wanted him to get back on the court soon. “I love Luka, love the game too man. Can’t wait to see him get back on the court, shake the court.”

But DaBaby’s choice of Luka is unsurprising. He is just another one dazzled by the 22-year-old’s presence.

Ball falls slightly on the younger side of the list mentioned by Sharpe, but don’t let that fool you. He is also the youngest Rookie of the Year award winner of the pack, having won the award in 2021. Alongside, he also made it to the All-Rookie team in 2021 and was the year’s ESPY Best Breakthrough Athlete.

A part of the Hornets community believes Ball will be one to break the Hornets’ championship lock. But so far, that hasn’t been the case as the Hornets have only achieved a best standing of 10th in the Eastern Conference since his arrival. It looks a far cry this year as well, as the team sits on an even lower 13.

But the fans aren’t getting any of that. If anyone could get the Hornets their first championship, it’s LaMelo Ball. And DaBaby is certainly one of those believers.
