Seth Curry’s return to Charlotte, donning his father Dell Curry’s jersey number, has given a unique element to the Hornets’ season. He was traded to the Hornets from the Brooklyn Nets and made his Charlotte debut on February 10 wearing the historic No. 30 jersey, the same number his father wore while with the Hornets.
For Seth, playing in Charlotte while wearing his father’s jersey number is a dream come true. The 33-year-old guard was born in Charlotte and played collegiate basketball nearby at Duke University, so he has always felt a connection to the city and its team. His choice to wear the No. 30 shirt without permission from Dell illustrates the strong bond between father and son. And looking at his brother rocking his father’s jersey, the 4x NBA Champion was pleasantly surprised.

Looking at his brother getting traded to the Hornets surprised the Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. However, when he was asked about the emotional jersey moment he said, “It was definitely a surprise. I didn’t know Seth was on the trading block or whatnot up until probably 2 days before. But the fact that he had a homecoming going back to Charlotte, the first game they played they wore the retro old-school Hornets jersey which my pops wore.”

He further added to that and spoke about how Seth ended up getting the number 30, “It’s funny like my dad said on the podcast I don’t think anybody asked Seth or my dad what number he was going to wear, they just did it knowing it was a pretty easy decision. So it’s cool to see the Curry 30 alive back in Charlotte.”
The Curry family has a long history in Charlotte. Dell Curry, a former NBA player and current Hornets announcer, is a revered figure in the community and the franchise’s second-all-time leading scorer. Due to that Dell Curry’s excitement for Seth’s return to Charlotte was understandable. He describes the moment as a “dream come true” and as a proud parent, he hasn’t stopped smiling since Seth joined the Hornets.
