The Los Angeles Clippers are looking in  a great shape to finish first in the very tough Western Conference. They started this season slowly, but after acquiring James Harden they found their rhythm. Even their recent victory over the Detroit Pistons highlighted their championship aspirations, thanks to an incredible fourth-quarter performance by Paul George.

Paul’s excellent game, which included 15 crucial points in the fourth quarter, pushed the Clippers to a big victory and put them within the reach of the conference leaders, the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, on his podcast, George revealed the changes being made to the Clippers’ tactics and the changes he is making in his role for the success of the club.

With a 35-16 record, the Clippers are only a half-game behind the Timberwolves, with the Denver Nuggets following closely behind. With a winning percentage of .686, the Clippers are establishing themselves as strong Western Conference contenders and apparently, it is because of the new role adopted by Paul George. He spoke about it on Podcast P saying, “I think I’ve just taken on that defensive leader. Obviously, we got Kawhi who’s one of the best defenders but I feel like just being versatile.”

He further added about the tactic change around James Harden saying, “I’m not getting as many shots as I was when I started the season off which is totally fine cuz we winning. James is getting adjusted into the role of being a facilitator and the floor general, so I have been getting my shots through certain stuff like that so you know the rhythm is going to be up and down.”

PG went on to explain how he is catering to the needs of the team and taking up a defensive role rather than scoring big points every night. Before Harden came in, Paul used to take up the offensive responsibility along with Kawhi Leonard whenever he was healthy. However, after the addition of The Beard, George is taking up shots whenever created by Harden and still averaging 22.5 points per game which shows the caliber of his skillset.

So, as the Clippers approach the end of the regular season, they stay focused on their ultimate goal, i.e. winning home-court advantage in the playoffs. Coach Tyronn Lue highlights the necessity of finishing first in the standings, and acknowledged the significance of playing in front of their home audience. With 31 games remaining, the Clippers are ready to make a statement with their new tactics and their ability to overcome any obstacle.
