Derrick White, the Celtics point guard, had a big role today. After losing to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals Game 7, the familiar foes matched up today. Fair to say, the Celtics made up for the loss last time. They won in a 119-11 victory over the Heat. And here comes the interesting part: when it came down to the wire, and it did, White put in a buzzer-beater to decimate Miami. Derrick’s buzzer-beater has earned him the recognition of being on par with the legend Michael Jordan.

The only player to hit a buzzer-beater during playoffs before White was Michael Jordan in 1989. Of course, Jordan has used it countless times hence. But when your team is facing elimination and you beat the buzzer? That’s one of a kind. And it certainly has got the Celtics fans into a frenzy.

Celtic fans are a loyal bunch. Though some have pointed out that they are also a stuck-up group (read: Irving), they are loyal to a fault when it comes to cheering on their favorite players and team. And that’s what happened tonight. White’s magnificent performance has Boston crying out in happiness.

Another user put the message succinctly.

A third user pointed out that White seems to turn in to Jordan when the Celtics go against Miami.

Derrick’s bald head (the ‘white’ bald head) seems to be getting a lot of attention. It doesn’t help that Michael Jordan also has a bald head. A fourth user makes it a point to use that in his tweet, with a staggering claim.

Yet another fan seems to have figured out the winning formula for being a basketball legend.

Suffice to say that the Celtics fans love Derrick White’s bald head and his buzzer-beater. And they have put him in a pedestal with NBA legends like Bryant and Jordan. On second thought, bald heads do seem to do the trick, don’t you think?

Clover leaves are usually associated with luck. A four-leaf clover is the special one of the bunch. Though it is still early to say, so far it seems like the Celtics did find a four-leaf clover to start this season with. Their season opener was a win over the Knicks and now, it’s another win over Miami.

The whole game was one big tense moment. The back and forth with the scores was a crazy day for fans and teams alike. The fourth quarter was what turned the tide in favor of Boston. Even then, it wasn’t an easy uphill graph. Miami was leading with 88-87 going into the fourth quarter. But White scored eight straight points bringing the Celtics on top with 96-90.

With just over four minutes to play, Boston was still leading with 109-102 when Adebayo blocked Jaylen Brown’s shot from behind, leaving the ball in Butler’s hand. Even as he was going for a spectacular dunk, White managed to block it, only for the ball to go back to Miami with a turnover.

In the final eight and a half minutes, Boston got their defenses up getting one over the Heat 25-14 and forcing 5 turnovers. So, what do you think? Will the clover continue to offer its luck throughout, or will the Celtics have to up their game when it’s time face off against the bigger fishes? Share your thoughts in the comments!
