Goodbye lovebirds, Ime Udoka, and Nia Long. An affair between Udoka and female Celtics staff marred the chances of the couple surviving their 13-year-long relationship. Even though Udoka led the Celtics to their first NBA finals since 2010, the franchise fired him after the revelations of his affairs. And then, soon after, the former coach bagged a massive $28.5 million contract this off-season as the new head coach for Houston Rockets.

Just when things were starting to get back on track for Udoka, his ex-fiance dropped another bomb on the 46-year-old this past week.

Nia Long takes Ime Udoka to court

Udoka’s fresh chance was just on the horizon with the Rockets. Things went spiraling down when his past came haunting back to him. His ex-fiancé, Nia Long, took Udoka to court, fighting the custody battle of their own child. A week-long battle in Los Angeles was fought all on one claim: Udoka isn’t supporting his son.

The 52-year-old actress wants full custody of their son and is only asking the court to allow Udoka for visitation rights only. She believes consistency is what’s best for Kez right now. Considering the sensitivity of the situation, Udoka still remains to break his silence on the matter.

The root cause of the matter, Udoka’s alleged affair, dampened his chances with Celtics. His relationship with the franchise was in full swing. He led the team to a fantastic run to the finals in 2022. Interestingly enough, this was also his debut season as the team’s head coach. Despite losing to GSW, his future with the Celtics looked promising.

The franchise suspended him, replacing him with their current head coach, Joe Mazzulla. But things are looking up for Udoka, since he’s now signed a massive 4-year contract with Houston Rockets.

Ime Udoka signs a massive contract with the Houston Rockets

After this controversial exit, Ime Udoka seems to have reached the light at the end of the tunnel. His 4-year contract is worth $28.5 million this off-season. After a long playoff drought, the Rockets look ready to start their rebuild. They added Fred VanVleet and Jeff Green for some much-needed veteran presence on the team. Houston also signed former Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks on a massive 4-year $80 Million contract.

Apart from the signings, the Rockets picked up Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore as the 4th and 20th picks in this year’s NBA draft. Both players have the potential to become future stars in the league and will accompany rising stars Jalen Green and Alperen Şengün on the court.

With a new and talented roster, Ime Udoka has a chance to build something great in Houston after his brief success and eventual fallout with the Celtics.
