A young fan of the Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball was delightfully surprised with a signed jersey before Sunday’s game against the Toronto Raptors. It was none other than the 6-year-old Adonis, rapper Drake‘s son. Soon after the clip of the heartwarming interaction between Ball and Adonis surfaced, Drake took to Instagram to express his gratitude by sharing the clip with the caption, “thank you broski“. Talk about wholesome content!

Despite the Hornets’ 111-106 loss to the Raptors, young Adonis surely left the arena thrilled with his new prized possession. Their warm connection began in 2023 when Adonis drew a picture of Ball, which was shared on Drake’s Instagram. Ball responded by sending Adonis a pair of his signature Puma shoes.

Adonis even rocked his new LaMelo kicks in his first rap “My Man Freestyle”.

It’s clear that Drake, a die-hard Raptors supporter, being from the “6” himself, has passed on his love for the game of basketball to his son. The young NBA fan frequently attends games with his father. Drake even shared a clip of Adonis practicing drills in a LeBron James jersey, catching the attention of the “King” himself who reposted the story with the caption, “My nephew really love the game.”

When Basketball Connects Generations

Although, the twist is that while Drake proudly supports the Raptors, his son seems to have found his favorite player on the opposing team, the Charlotte Hornets. Or, at the very least, his strong allegiance to Hornets’ LaMelo Ball.

Unfortunately, the Hornets’ superstar Ball wasn’t able to play in the game because of an ankle injury. He’s only played in 22 games this season, but when he’s healthy, he’s a force to be reckoned with. In his 22 starts, he averaged 23.9 points and 8.0 assists per game on 43.3/35.5/86.5 splits.

Both the Hornets and the Raptors are facing their challenges right now. The Hornets are currently the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Raptors, one spot above the Hornets, are fighting for a place in the play-in tournament. The Raptors are 3 1/2 games behind Atlanta Hawks who are currently placed at the 10th rank in the Eastern Conference. A cloud of injury hangs over both teams, but one thing’s for sure, it’s an opportunity for both teams to develop their players and build for the next season.

So, who will be celebrating more at the end of the season? Will it be Drake, cheering on his team, the Toronto Raptors, or will it be a young Adonis, living it up with his LaMelo Ball jersey? Comment your thoughts below!
