The past few days have been eventful and historical in nature for the world of basketball. It was only a few days ago when Lakers star LeBron James made history by becoming the first NBA player to score more than 40,000 points. While the NBA has been having it’s moments, things have also been looking up over at the NCAA I Division.
It was only a few hours ago when Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark made history by breaking a 50-year-old record. During a recent game against Ohio state, she scored 18 points to go past Pete Maravich’s record of 3,667 points and emerge as the NCAA Division I’s All-Time Leading Scorer in both men and women’s basketball. With just 0.3 seconds left in the 2 quarter, the moment may not have been made available to the player if she hadn’t been awarded a foul. By confidently depositing two free throws through the hoop, the 22-year-old brought her overall total to 3,668 points and added a new chapter to the history books of basketball. While she did not spend too much time enjoying her recent feat and soon got back to playing with her teammates, the crowd celebrated her by erupting into loud cheers and applauses.
Soon after the deed was done, the official Instagram account of ‘espnW’ uploaded a post on their feed. It highlighted a full-length poster of Clark as well as a Nike ad hanging alongside a couple of buildings in Iowa. The ad featured a quote that read “This was never a long shot”, highlighting the college player’s recent accomplishment. The Instagram post caught the attention of four-time NBA champion Draymond Green. He shared the same on his story and wrote a caption that read “Congrats @caitlinclark22” accompanied by a couple of ‘GOAT’ emojis.

Caitlin Clark had other things on her mind while securing the All-Time Scoring Record
The ongoing collegiate season is the final one for Caitlin Clark. With her team currently placed as the 2 seed on the points table of the upcoming Big Ten tournament, the player is supposedly diverting all her attention to ensure that Iowa continues maintaining their momentum. This is probably the reason why Clark did not spend too much time basking in her accomplishment. The same became apparent when the player was asked at halftime by a journalist whether the record was on her mind during the game.
“Not really,” said Clark. “But then when they announced it and everybody screamed, that’s when I knew. Pretty cool.”
