NBA players are some of the highest-paid athletes in the sports world. If a player has potential and can get wins for his team, the franchise will waste no time offering him a sizable contract and locking him in for years. Players like Stephen Curry and LeBron James have raked in millions of dollars in salary by leading their teams to multiple titles throughout their careers. Alberto de Roa, an analyst at HoopsHype, created a statistical tool called Global Rating that ranked the current players based on their individual and team performance in contrast with their yearly salary.

Surprisingly, a 23-year-old All-Star who earns $46,107,180 less than Stephen Curry was way ahead of the 4-time Champion in those rankings.

Stephen Curry left behind by 23-year-old All-Star

Stephen Curry signed a massive 4-year $215 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors in 2021. That means the veteran point guard will make $51,915,615 in the 2023-24 season. That is one of the highest-earning contracts in the NBA. According to the Global Rating, Chef Curry is ranked 20th in the current players list, with a rating of 19.59. Meanwhile, 23-year-old All-Star Tyrese Haliburton, who will make only $5,808,435 this season, is ranked 11 spots above Stephen Curry. The Pacers guard is sitting comfortably on the 9th spot with a rating of 24.45. Haliburton is in the second last year of his rookie contract.

Therefore, he is among the lowest-paid superstars in the league. However, it is not long before the 23-year-old earns the same kind of money as Stephen Curry. Haliburton signed a massive 5-year $260 million max extension with the Pacers this summer, that will keep him in Indiana through 2028-29. The extension came after his first season as an All-Star where he averaged 22.2 points and 11.2 assists. Haliburton has lived up to the expectations and continued his incredible form this season. He is averaging 25.3 points and 12.3 assists so far.

Other notable names in the Global Rating rankings

Apart from Stephen Curry and Tyrese Haliburton, several other superstars in the league are part of the Global Rating rankings. 2-time MVP Nikola Jokic is ranked the best player in the league with an insane rating of 31.92. Surprisingly, 25-year-old OKC guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is 2nd on the list, followed by Joel Embiid, Luka Doncic, and Kevin Durant.

Even in his 21st season, it ranked LeBron James as the 12th-best player in the league with a rating of 23.03. It ranked rookie Chet Holmgren at 25th, and he is sitting 51 spots ahead of Number 1 pick Victor Wembanyama. These rankings give a good perspective of how a player is performing individually and the impact he has had on his team.

Do you think Chef Curry is too low on the list considering his impact on the Warriors this season?
