D’Angelo Russell is in the middle of an impressive offensive stretch. He has played great in the recent games and helped the Lakers win 3 of their last 4 games. D’Angelo went off for 34 points and 8 assists in the last game against the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the NBA World was more concerned about the visual of Russell crying on the bench during the Lakers’ win. The video instantly went viral on social media and even caught the attention of Russell’s former teammate, Nick Young.
The former Lakers teammates re-ignited their beef 8 years after D’Angelo Russell’s secretly recorded tapes of Young came to light. After a video of Russell crying on the Lakers bench went viral, the Lakers point guard denied the rumors during a practice session.
“I am a fu*king gangster. The fu*k am I crying about?” D’Lo said. Russell’s former Lakers teammate and long-time rival Nick Young wasted no time slamming him for his viral moment. “Ni**a youuuu a bi*ch,” Young commented. D’Lo continued the back and forth and replied, “Here you go!! And you FLATT.”

The beef between D’Angelo and Young dates back to 2016, when they were teammates on the Lakers squad. D’Lo secretly videotaped a conversation between him and Nick Young where Swaggy P admitted to cheating on the then fiancé and famous rapper Iggy Azalea. The video surfaced on social media soon after and ruined Young’s reputation.
Young and Azalea broke off their engagement following the leaked video. Neither party has let go of the incident since and continues to beef with each other whenever they get the chance.

The history between D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young
D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young became teammates after the Lakers drafted D’Lo 2nd overall in the 2015 draft. They played together for two seasons from 2015 to 2017. However, both players got traded from the Lakers following the leaked video incident as soon as the season ended. Not only did the incident ruin the reputation and relationship of Nick Young, but it also isolated D’Angelo from his teammates. After the video went public, many teammates reportedly lost trust in Russell. That ruined D’Angelo’s first run with the Lakers.

However, he has finally made a comeback with his second Lakers tenure. D’Lo helped the Lakers reach the Western Conference finals last season. And he is starting to make an impact this season as well. Hopefully, the Lakers guard will not mess his chances up this time by digging a beef that started 8 years ago.
