Former Sixers owner speaks up about the Harden-Morey controversy

In a recent Pat Bev Pod interview, they asked Rubin “As a past NBA owner, obviously you are close to the Sixers, the situation that’s going on with James Harden. How would you handle it?” Michael Rubin commented candidly, saying, “It wouldn’t have happened. James is family to me and I’m not going to hide about that. I love James. This thing is breaking my heart. This thing was just not handled well.”

Rubin further added, “There is nobody who wants to win a championship more than James Harden. I know this guy like my brother. People give James a hard time cause you know he likes to have fun, and that’s bulls**t. The guys work ethic for basketball is insane.” To which Patrick Beverley added saying, “his attitude has been great. He’s been leading, giving advice. You might hear all the bad s**t on TV. But actually being a teammate that’s there, he’s been phenomenal.”

What happened between Harden and Morey?

The NBA has fined Philadelphia 76ers star guard James Harden $100,000 following angry public comments about his future with the organization. Harden’s strong words directed at Sixers president Daryl Morey have sparked a flurry of controversy, highlighting the player’s dissatisfaction with his current team. He stated publicly in August that he would not complete his contractual commitments with the 76ers until they dealt him to another team. His anger stemmed from the Sixers’ inability to find a trade partner despite him exercising his player option for the next season.

Harden’s criticisms reached a climax when he openly referred to Daryl Morey as “a liar” at a promotional event in China. Harden reiterated his thoughts, saying, “Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.” This outburst highlighted the chasm between the star player and the Sixers’ president. The James Harden-Daryl Morey saga is a sharp reminder of the difficulties that come with the NBA’s business side. As the 76ers struggle to manage this issue and Harden searches for a new team, the league-wide spotlight remains firmly on one of the NBA’s most contentious controversies.
