Former NBA Champion Otto Porter Jr. has shocked the NBA World with a massive career update. The 30-year-old forward has announced his retirement after playing 11 years in the NBA. The shocking announcement came shortly after Porter got waived by the Utah Jazz without making a single appearance. While many expected Porter to land in a new team during free agency, the news of his early retirement has left the fans stunned.

“For the past 11 years, I had the chance to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA. That dream was capped by winning an NBA Championship! Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level that I expect of myself, and I have therefore decided to retire.” Porter said in his statement.

The NBA World could not believe the news of Porter’s retirement and took to social media to express their disbelief. One fan wrote, “NO F***ING WAY MANNN.” The NBA World followed suit.

Several Warriors fans were upset with Otto’s retirement because they wanted him back in Golden State. Porter played for the Warriors during the 2021-22 season and helped Stephen Curry and Co. win a Championship in his only season there. So, Dub Nation would have loved to see him in the Warriors uniform once again.

Even though this fan was shocked by Porter’s retirement, he congratulated the 11-year veteran for a solid NBA career.

This fan realized the importance of prioritizing health over career and sympathized with Porter for retiring at such an early age.

Even though Otto Porter Jr. is retiring at a young age, he had a solid run in the NBA. He was picked 3rd overall in the 2013 draft and had a decent first stint with the Washington Wizards. But the highlight of Porter’s career came in 2022 when he lifted his first NBA Championship with the Warriors. Despite coming off several injury-riddled seasons, Porter was highly efficient during the Warriors Championship run. He played in 63 games that season, averaging 8.2 points and 5.7 rebounds. Following his Championship victory, Porter joined the Toronto Raptors on a 2-year $12.3 million contract.

Unfortunately, Porter suffered a season-ending foot injury last season after playing only 8 games. He played only 15 games for the Raptors this season and got traded to the Utah Jazz last month. The Jazz waived Porter, eventually leading to his retirement. Although Porter’s NBA journey is ending abruptly, he got his last hurrah as the Warriors awarded him his 2022 Championship ring earlier this season on their home court.

Not many players survive in the NBA for 11 years, and certainly not many win an NBA Championship during that time. Despite suffering several injuries in his career, Otto Porter Jr. would be satisfied knowing he achieved what he set out to at the start of his career.
