Mavs GM Nico Harrison finally received a cheerful reception from fans! Not sure if he should take that in a positive light because it wasn’t the fans from Texas. Tonight, the 52-year-old is about to face the biggest test of his life. Unfortunately, it’s already looking like a losing battle. By now, you must have guessed it. Yes, Luka Doncic will face the Dallas Mavericks for the first time in the Lakers‘ uniform in Los Angeles. And the boisterous LA crowd has something to say to Harrison (A warm greeting).

Harrison has been strolling across California over the last few days. Recently, he was spotted at the Mavericks’ visit to SF. I don’t need to remind you but it went viral when ESPN made it a point to pull up a split screen for Harrison and Rob Pelinka multiple times throughout the live game.

Tonight, he visited the Crypto.com Arena for the much-awaited match-up and the Lakers fans had a message for him as he walked out of the tunnel. Fox Sports’ Melissa Rohlin reported that the fans screamed, “Good trade, Nico! We love you, Nico!” Well, this must be something that Harrison wanted to hear from the Dallas crowd!

Long story short. Nico Harrison pulled the plug when he traded away a golden egg-laying duck to the Lakers for an injury-prone Anthony Davis. To make matters worse, Anthony Davis just couldn’t catch a break. The big man barely lasted half a game before going down with an abductor injury in his Mavericks debut.

Since then? Six straight games on the sidelines. Not exactly what Nico had in mind when they pulled the trigger on that blockbuster trade.

Meanwhile, the Lakers are on a roll after their latest acquisition, winning  4 out of 6 since Luka Doncic‘s debut. These are all ingredients that might fuel the Dallas fans’ anger. Let’s find out the contrasting reception that Nico Harrison received in Texas.

Boos to death threats: Mavs fan react to Luka Doncic trade

Without a doubt, Nico Harrison’s move to trade Luka Doncic has left the Mavs fans in denial. It doesn’t feel like they have come to terms with it yet. They staged various creative protests to express their displeasure, but nothing seemed to work. Then, fans had no option other than taking questionable ways.

Firstly, the fan triggered a wave of loud boos across the American Airlines Arena whenever Harrison appeared on the jumbotron. Especially, chants of “Fire Nico” erupted along with boos.

In response to the hostile reaction, the GM said, I’m sorry they are frustrated but it’s something we believe in as an organization that it’s going to make us better… And when we win, I believe the frustration will go away.”

However, that hasn’t been the case. In fact, things seemed to have gone out of hand. Tim MacMahon reported that Harrison found himself amid a horde of death threats and racial slurs prompting the franchise to amp up the security.

So, the 52-year-old has no way out until the current Mavs roster does something special. Can they defeat the overpowered Lakers franchise to calm the fans down? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
