Luka Doncic created history last night. The Slovenian sensation set a new career-high in scoring with his 73-point outburst against the Atlanta Hawks. That is the third-highest score by an individual in an NBA game and the highest since Kobe Bryant’s 81 points in 2006.

The Dallas Mavericks will be in action again tonight against the Sacramento Kings. And Kings head coach Mike Brown fears Luka Doncic might repeat what he did last night. During the pre-game interview, Brown revealed his thoughts about Luka getting 73 points again. “Can he get 73 again? Sure, he can. He can get 73 on anybody.” The head coach said. Luka has been on a tear this season. With Kyrie Irving injured, Luka has elevated his offensive game to the next level and has been a nightmare for his opponents. He is averaging 34.6 points, 9.2 assists, and 8.6 rebounds.

After witnessing Luka’s historic performance, Mike Brown was asked if a player could score 100 points in a game in today’s NBA. The Kings head coach replied, “Yeah, I can see it. It’s definitely within reach with the way the talent level is right now.”

It has been 62 years since a player scored 100 points in an NBA game. Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain did it in 1962 when he single-handedly decimated the New York Knicks with his record-setting performance. Even though the 100-point record seems unachievable, Mike Brown believes that the talent in today’s NBA is capable of achieving that feat.

He commended the current players and claimed the league would remain highly competitive even if the NBA expanded four to six more teams.

The 70+ points club

Luka Doncic is not the only player in NBA history to have a 70+ point game. 9 other players have crossed that mark throughout league history. Surprisingly, we saw a 70-point performance earlier this week when Joel Embiid created history against the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA witnessed two 71-point games last season as well. Donovan Mitchell and Damian Lillard scored 71 points each last year, nearly two months apart. Devin Booker also had a 70-point game in a loss against the Boston Celtics in 2017.

Several NBA legends have also achieved that feat, including Elgin Baylor, David Thompson, and David Robinson. Kobe Bryant went one step further in 2006 and scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors. However, no one comes close to claiming the throne of the 70+ point club than Wilt Chamberlain. The Hall of Famer surpassed the 70-point mark six times in his career, including the only 100-point game in league history.
