As one of the major American sports, basketball is beloved by all. The players are often considered role models, with people wanting to be like them and play like them. R&B artist backpedals from comical LeBron James claim
The artist is none other than Jason Derulo, the 34-year-old heartthrob singer/songwriter. Joined by Michael Buble, the Canadian-Italian singer in the On the Road Podcast episode, they imagine the professional sports career they would have taken. A basketball fan, Derulo is certain that he would be LeBron James if only he was six inches taller. Throwing water on his dreams, his fellow host calls J.D. “delusional”.

Jason immediately counters it by saying, “Hold on, I didn’t have to be 6 inches taller … at my height, I think.” This just leads to full-blown laughter. When he realizes his mistake, Derulo tries to straighten things. “Not LeBron James, but someone else,” he says. J.D. is going to catch strays on this one for a long time!

While this may seem like an absurd claim to many, if we look at Derulo’s history, there is some truth to all of this. In fact, if he wasn’t mesmerizing people with his insane and groovy music, Jason Derulo might have been a basketball player!!

“Pretty close decision”: Derulo’s career dilemma
One of the headliners for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Draw, Jason Derulo had sat down with the FIBA team for a casual chat. From a young age, Derulo was good at both basketball and singing. His basketball coach, Frank Harris, who later became his manager, was responsible for helping develop his basketball skills. But by the time J.D. was 12, Harris realized that his true passion lay in music.

Seeing his talent in the recording studio, Frank introduced him to a few contacts he had in the music industry. And just like that, Derulo’s love for music took precedence over basketball. Explaining his life-altering decision, Derulo says, “It was a pretty close decision at that point because I was just so obsessed with it (music) at that point in my life.” Add to it the fact that his team was winning championships one after another; the decision-making was truly tough.
Anyway, the decision to make a mark in the entertainment industry was the right choice. Internationally acclaimed and loved, Jason Derulo has achieved greatness in his field. Just like LeBron James has achieved the same in his field.
