The Milwaukee Bucks’ hot streak continues. After an abysmal start to the Doc Rivers coaching era, the Bucks have finally turned things around since returning from the All-Star break. They got their 6th straight win tonight after beating the Los Angeles Clippers 113-106. Even more impressive is that Milwaukee did it without their best player, Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak missed tonight’s game due to left Achilles tendinitis.

The Bucks will start their 4-game road trip on Wednesday with their first clash against the Golden State Warriors. After tonight’s thrilling win, Doc Rivers was asked if the Bucks would begin their road trip without Giannis. Rivers replied, “I have no idea. Way to bring the mood down though.” Rivers was unsure about the 2-time MVP’s current situation and how long he would remain out of action.

Rivers revealed earlier tonight that Giannis has been playing through injury for a few games. So, he might require more rest to fully recover and return to 100 percent. Giannis has been the best player on the Bucks squad, averaging 30.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. And his absence leaves a massive void in the Bucks’ roster. Not only is Giannis the best offensive player on his team, but he is also a menace on defense. Without him, the Bucks will need another miraculous performance from Damian Lillard to start their road trip with a win. Apart from Giannis, Khris Middleton’s return is also uncertain.

Middleton has been out for nearly a month after suffering a sprained ankle during the Suns vs. Bucks game.

How did the Bucks win without Giannis Antetokounmpo?

While many believed the Bucks would crumble against the Clippers without Giannis, Damian Lillard and Co. had other plans. With the Greek Freak sidelined, Lillard brought ‘Dame Time’ to Milwaukee and went off for 41 points. He decimated the Clippers’ defense and led the Bucks to victory. Bobby Portis turned out to be the unlikely hero for Milwaukee tonight. The 9-year veteran played his best game this season and finished with a monster stat line of 28 points and 16 rebounds.

Doc Rivers also made great adjustments to stop the Clippers from scoring. The Bucks head coach switched to zone defense in the second half to make up for Giannis’ absence. That decision disrupted the Clippers’ timing on offense and slowed them down. The zone defense also allowed the Bucks to keep their shooters on the floor. Tonight’s game proved that the Bucks can be title contenders if every member plays their role to perfection. Hopefully, Giannis will return to the lineup soon and help the Bucks extend their winning streak.
