The Indiana Pacers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 122-113 on Monday. The first day of the new year and Giannis Antetokounmpo & Co. started with a failure. While there can only be one winner at the end of the game, this loss will definitely sting for a top-performing team such as Milwaukee.

Not one to be disheartened by failures, the “Greek Freak” took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his source of motivation. “New Year! Same Us!” – Giannis captions his post filled with his family and their photos.

While the man in question had a triple-double (30-11-18), the same couldn’t be said for his co-star, Damian Lillard. Despite playing for 38 minutes, Dame managed to score just 13 points, shooting 3 of 15 and only one-of-nine from 3. The worst record of Lillard donning a Bucks jersey.

But not everyone has one of “those” days. So hopefully, it was that and we can see something of a Dame-Time in the next matchup. Aside from that, the others all had a decent night. Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez scored 21 points each while Malik Beasley had 12 points and four rebounds.

“It’s a Special Milestone”: Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Heartening Christmas Day MSG Fact Wins Over the NBA World

While Giannis might take comfort in his family, the rest of the internet had no plans of going easy on him.

Game-ball memes come back in full swing to haunt Giannis Antetokounmpo

Tyrese Haliburton‘s final handing of the game ball to the ref could have been one reason for many similar reactions. Clearly, the young star is also not one to forget the past. And yet, the number of reactions is simply wild. Here’s one to give you an idea of the intensity.

Giannis’s meltdown for not getting the game ball the last time they met has had mixed reactions even then. While many pointed out how not everyone would understand the importance of the same, others were downright honest. One had even sent a DM to his fiancée, Mariah Riddlesprigger, with some choice comments.

The fan was apparently quite rude, calling him “pathetic” for behaving like a “baby” over a ball.

The online heckler also mentioned that he/she was going to bar his/her children from ever watching him play. Thoroughly disgusted with the insensitiveness of the NBA fan, Riddlesprigger clapped back with equal ferocity. She called the fan out for not even trying to understand the whole situation while giving him/her props for their decision. “Mrs. Freak” took it a step further, posting the conversation as a story update, daring anyone to come at her.

There is no wonder why the Greek’s family is his biggest support. Interestingly, Antetokounmpo later said that he hadn’t wanted the ball for himself. Rather, it was for Damian Lillard who passed Kyle Korver and reached the fifth position in the All-Time 3-pointers list. The Pacers, on the other hand, wanted the ball to celebrate their teammate, Oscar Tshiebwe’s first NBA score.

Even though this incident happened around three weeks ago, the internet does not forget or forgive.

One take at a time

“Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball” - Jackson had a simple philosophy when he was coaching the Lakers. He wanted everyone to succeed and grow in the service of something bigger than themselves. This is what struck me the most.
