The Memphis Grizzlies are having a difficult season as they deal with the repercussions of their top point guard, Ja Morant, suffering a season-ending injury. From the start of this season, Morant faced a lot of difficulties as he entered the league after serving a 25-game ban for “conduct detrimental to the league.” He received this penalty after appearing with a gun for the second time during a live-streamed video. The ban had a major influence on the team’s success, especially since they were missing their best player for a large period of the season.

However, now that their star point guard is injured and cannot play for the entire season, the Volunteer State is seeking a Disabled Player Exception from the league.

Grizzlies request compensation for Ja Morant’s season-ending injury

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the franchise has officially asked for a $12.4 million Disabled Player Exception from the NBA because their star player suffered a terrible shoulder dislocation that occurred during a practice session. And the injury was so severe that the 24-year-old player was forced to have surgery.

This financial provision is intended to assist the team in filling the hole left by their star player and making necessary roster revisions. So, the conclusion of this request will have a substantial impact on the team’s ability to compete this season. That is because the prior 25-game suspension of their star had a major influence on the team’s success as Morant was the cornerstone of the team aiding them in racking up points as well as creating opportunities for his teammates.

So, until he made his comeback to the squad, the team was holding a 6-win and 20-loss record. And after he came back to the roster, out of the 9 matches he played, the Grizzlies won 6. With this performance, he demonstrated his abilities through his limited outings on the floor by averaging an outstanding 25.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game.
