Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics’ star player, led the team to the season opener win tonight. With the veteran Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in tow, the Celtics definitely made an impact on the court. The game ended with a 108-104 win for Boston. Porzingis’ arrival back at the Madison Square Garden did not go over well with the crowd.

But all the booing only seemed to push the Latvian big man into action. And Holiday‘s presence of mind was very much appreciated. He was the calm in the storm. So when it looked like the Knicks were going to rip the Celtics apart, KP showed up. On a different note, though, for a breath-stopping few minutes there, it did look like Boston was going to go down.

Brown almost cost the Celtics, but Jayson Tatum always has his back

Jaylen Brown, the second star player of the Celtics, did not have the best of nights on the season opener. One of the most talented young players in the league, Brown’s athleticism, speed, and extraordinary wingspan make him a force to reckon with. Unfortunately, the Celtics’ opening night just wasn’t his night.

But his brother-in-arms Tatum doesn’t spare another thought on Jaylen’s subpar performance. Talking to the media after the game, Jayson sums up Brown’s worries in one line, “It was just one game.”

What’s even more adorable is the way he points out how everybody knows just how special Jaylen Brown is. And to be fair, this is just the first of 82 games. They are still trying to figure out how Holiday and Porzingis fit into their puzzle piece.

Even though Brown’s two turnovers could have cost them dearly, their new weapon in the form of Kristaps took the lead to get one over the Knicks.

The Celtics’ ingenuity behind acquiring Porzingis shines through in the season opener

Kristaps Porzingis signed a multi-year $60 million extension with the Celtics on the first day of his free agency. The Celtics were adamant in locking the former Wizards’ big man within themselves. What stands out most, probably, would be his versatility. His offensive skills are lethal. From spacing the floor to working as a screen and scoring from practically anywhere on the court will create some serious damage for the opposing teams.

Pair that with Tatum and Brown’s massive scoring ability, Boston has a winning trio right there. His defense is not lacking in any way either. So much so that the head coach has apparently given him a “green light” on defense, Porzingis said. And why wouldn’t he? His rim protection abilities and defense on the perimeter have been on full display.

The rest, like team chemistry and finding their places, can always be worked on, eventually. But do you think the season opener meltdown of Jaylen Brown is just a onetime thing? Will he bounce back to the Brown we all know?
