I really don’t give a f**k, said JJ Redick during his introductory press conference on Monday. This came after the new Lakers HC was asked about whether he wanted to dispel the misconceptions surrounding him. Now if you’re new to the block, here’s the summary. The misconception is that a person without an already accomplished CV cannot manage LeBron James and the Lakers.

The word misconception is the exact thing that explains the situation because there are several instances where an HC without prior success led a team to success. The biggest example is the recently crowned NBA champion, Celtics HC, Joe Mazzulla as he had no prior head coaching experience. The same man, JJ Redick has been tasked with to replicate. So how will Redick do it? The former Magic guard gave an impromptu coaching class over it in front of the press.

Following the press conference, Jovan Buha collected all the exit thoughts from Redick’s blueprint to make the Lakers great again. The Athletic reporter rearranged them on his “Buha’s Block” podcast and explained Redick’s coaching philosophy. “JJ mentioned multiple times that he wants LeBron to take more threes, Rui (Hachimura) to take more threes, as a team just to take more threes,” said Buha.

He also mentioned Redick’s intended role for Anthony Davis. “JJ having a plan… using Anthony Davis as a hub and using him more in the way that the Nuggets use Nikola Jokic or the Kings use Domantas Sabonis, using him at the elbows above the three-point arc running the offense through him,” Buha told his viewers. This will enable LeBron to work off the ball and conserve energy to shoot more 3s.

In the Nuggets system, Jokic is the hub for Michael Malone’s team. Redick wants Davis to play a similar role to that of the 3-time MVP. The former Pelicans C already is aware of it. As per Buha, Redick had multiple chats with the big man throughout the past week and Davis seemingly liked it.

Anthony Davis Was More Influential Than LeBron James in Redick Hiring

“There will be no podcast,” JJ Redick made it clear during his press conference. The new boss co-hosted the “Mind The Game” podcast with LeBron James apart from his one. LeBron should be making sure his podcast buddy gets to take their business in the locker room. But that was far from it. During the press conference, the big reveal happened via Rob Pelinka when he credited AD for the hiring assistance. “Davis chose to be very involved and was very involved. I talked to him throughout the process and got a lot of help and wisdom from him, and he was very excited for today,” said the Lakers GM.

This came as a surprise after Marc Stein wrote the exact opposite on his Substack. According to the NBA insider, Davis was against the hiring of Redick due to his snub by the former analyst during DPOY and NBA All-Defense team voting. Now that Redick is the new boss and that too at the behest of Davis, we can safely assume the burial of the hatchet.
