Kevin Durant Disrespect Triggers Pushing and Shoving at Mavs vs Suns

The game between the Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks got off to a hot start. Things got chippy early in the first quarter as both teams got into a shoving match after Grant Williams disrespected Kevin Durant. The Mavs forward picked up an early foul after he got physical with Durant while defending him. Williams tried to body KD and keep him out of the paint. Durant tripped in the process and fell to the ground.
Things were fine till then, but it got really out of hand when Williams stood over KD while complaining to the officials about the foul call. Suns Center Jusuf Nurkić did not like KD getting disrespected and came to his teammate’s aid. Nurkic shoved Williams away from Durant and helped him back to his feet. Meanwhile, Williams recovered from the blow and shoved Nurkic back in retaliation. That triggered pushing and shoving between the Suns and the Mavs players as both teams tried to separate Durant and Nurkic from Williams.

Grant Williams has a history of embarrassing moments
Tonight is not the first time Grant Williams has embarrassed himself while playing his role of an agitator. He has had several moments throughout his career where his antics have backfired. The most viral incident happened last season when Williams missed two clutch free throws to seal the game for the Boston Celtics. With the game tied at 109-109 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Grant got fouled with less than 1 second remaining on the clock. Before shooting the game-winning free throws, Grant said to Donovan Mitchell, “Imma make ’em both.” Unfortunately, Williams missed both shots, and the game went to overtime. In a hilarious moment, he proceeded to hang on the rim to check if there was something wrong with it. The moment instantly went viral on social media, and Williams got trolled by the fans.

Williams has also faced the consequences of his antics when the stakes were high. During Game 2 of the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat, Williams got into Jimmy Butler’s face after hitting a three-pointer and getting the Celtics a commanding lead. Butler was unfazed by the trash talk and smiled at Williams. Butler then went off on a scoring spree and muscled a comeback to get Miami the win. Maybe, Grant Williams needs to learn from his mistakes and stop poking the bear, as his team faces the consequences of his actions in most cases.
