At the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest this year, Richardson took the stage by storm, racing through the 100-meter final in a jaw-dropping 10.65 seconds – an astonishing victory with which she has surpassed Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 10.70 seconds sprint made in 1988.

Interestingly, the influence of the GOAT, Griffith-Joyner is evident in Richardson’s style and attire on the track. Richardson’s colored hair also keeps changing all the time as it has become a part of her identity!

Richardon started slow before overtaking her competitors in 10.65 seconds. She came first by quite a margin as the second-ranked Shericka Jackson finished 0.07 seconds later. She also broke her previous best of 10.72 seconds. After etching her name in women’s 100m history, Richardson was grateful for the competition.

“Brought out the best in myself,” she said.

As one of the brightest upcoming talents in athletics, Richardson has clinched a multitude of accolades and created a name for herself in the track and field arena.

And now with her fresh feat, she has etched her name along with the greats of the game!

Richardson’s ability on the track was clear since she was young. Standing at around 5’1″, the sprinter has a unique style. Significantly, her victory in the 100-meter race in AAU Junior Olympics in 2016 elevated her career. The real breakthrough, though, came when she won the 100-meter race at the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships – perhaps something that explains the college basketball star Angel Reese’s recent championing of Richardson.

Her arrival on the big stage came when she made the sixth-fastest time in women’s 100-meter history. She set a time of 10.72 seconds and incidentally also became the fourth-fastest American sprinter in the nation’s history. Her dream of becoming an international athlete was also fulfilled after she set a time of 10.86 at the United States Olympic Trials.
