Anthony Davis might have had a fumbling season overall, but there’s no way he’s giving up his DPOY status. In tonight’s 125-111 win over the Pistons, “The Brow” simply managed to throw three charging Pistons off the balance single-handedly. And LeBron James can’t help but pride over AD.

Talking about the play post-game, Bron says, “We were testing him to see if he was the Defensive Player of the Year or not, and he showed it.” Of course, it’s not James if he can’t inject a hilarious twist into every situation!

Austin Reaves tried to get the ball to Bron with a behind-the-back pass but failed. That led to a loose ball and before the Lakers knew it, three Detroit players were running full speed to an easy shot. Or at least they thought so. Davis stood right where he was. Jaden Ivey tried his best to maneuver around one of the league’s best defensive players to land the shot.

He failed, Davis drew a foul, and the next possession saw D’Lo hit a three. Ivey’s efforts were commendable, but this is Anthony Davis. If LeBron were to scour the ends of the earth and make it back in one piece, Davis was the man he would take with him.

AD finished the night with 20 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and six blocks, all in 28 minutes of game time. That makes him the fifth player ever to land those numbers under 30 minutes. He is also the third player this season to do so. Still wondering why he hasn’t gotten the Defensive Player Of The Year Award?

It’s a widely known fact that Davis’ health issues are what have kept him away from becoming a DPOY. He has been an All-Defensive First and Second-Teamer twice in his career. But the defensive player award has eluded him for a long time. But it seems like this year, he’s all set to change that.

According to Sports Illustrated, Davis is behind Chet Holmgren and Rudy Gobert to win the award this year. Although realistically, it might seem a little irrational, rules are rules. And the fact that AD has missed significant game time remains the truth.

Davis, though, has his eyes on a bigger prize – a second ring. And that’s what the entire Lakers and their fans are hoping for too. If he manages to snag a DPOY in the process, well and good. If not, that’s okay too.

One take at a time

“Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball” - Jackson had a simple philosophy when he was coaching the Lakers. He wanted everyone to succeed and grow in the service of something bigger than themselves. This is what struck me the most.
