Stephen A. Smith’s excitement for the New York Knicks‘ latest win is out of this world. So much so that he has been pondering and analyzing what the franchise could do to ensure they end the championship drought. And his solution was to bring LeBron James into the roster.

After lighting fire to the trade rumors that’s been going on since James’ cryptic hourglass emoji tweet, Stephen A. revisited the topic in his podcast. This time, though, he brought in a veteran guest to add more substance to his arguments.

Joining Stephen A. Smith Show this time was Frank Isola, ESPN commentator and a former sportswriter covering the Knicks from 1996-2018. Having vast experience with the team, it’s only natural for Smith to pick his brain on a potential LeBron move to New York. While Isola agreed with SAS, he also provides a unique point of view regarding Bron’s move. “Not everybody has to stay with one team.”

Before making this statement, Isola talked about how he spent years wondering about what the ‘Akron Hammer’ could add to his legacy. LeBron James has achieved every other award, honor, and milestone (created some too), that is there for taking. Of course, this season was all about landing a fifth title for the 4x Finals MVP. And he had hoped to do so in a Lakers jersey.

But with the way how things are progressing on LA’s end, that goal looks somewhat of a mirage. And that’s exactly why he should consider following the footsteps of soccer legend, Cristiano Ronaldo. Isola urged Bron to take a look at his illustrious career. Nobody is going to blame Ronaldo for playing for some of the biggest clubs in the world. In fact, that’s another achievement that not just anyone can do.

The ‘Chosen One’ has the skill set and qualities that every single team in the NBA would welcome. So, if James is willing to move, the former Knicks reporter suggested two places – Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks. Bulls, because that’s where Michael Jordan won. MJ’s contributions while playing for Chicago make it a hotspot and in the case of LeBron, it would be quite a recognition.

Frank said, “He’s [MJ] seen as a mercenary; that’s always going to be part of his resume. But that’s fine, that’s part of Kevin Durant’s resume [too],” inadvertently giving flowers to KD, one of the most underrated players in the NBA. With all the hot and heavy discussions taking place, is there really a possibility of a trade? His close friend and agent Rich Paul answered that question.

The social media went crazy with gasps and bulging eyes as a potential trade involving Bron caught fire. It all started with his hourglass emoji tweet. As the speculations started spiraling, James’ agent thought it necessary to squash it once and for all.

“LeBron won’t be traded, and we aren’t asking to be,” ESPN’s Windhorst reported. But these rumors took center stage with the trade deadline getting closer by the minute. Whether this applies to the offseason is something that’s still in the wind. LeBron does have the option of becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer. And he wouldn’t be short on offers.

One take at a time

“Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball” - Jackson had a simple philosophy when he was coaching the Lakers. He wanted everyone to succeed and grow in the service of something bigger than themselves. This is what struck me the most.
