The Los Angeles Lakers plummeted downwards to a major loss vs the Houston Rockets tonight. After a magnificent double-OT win against the Warriors, Lakers fans expected them to carry the momentum. Unfortunately, it did not happen. Whether it was the groin hit, he sustained in the GSW matchup or the 55-minute-long match, Anthony Davis was sidelined for the entire fourth quarter in the Rockets game.

In the recent update by The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, Davis revealed that “his groin injury flared up in the second half and he wasn’t able to move how he’s accustomed to on either end of the floor.”

LeBron James and Davis have been on the injury report for the past games. But they also suit up come game time. So, it was no surprise when ‘The Brow’ had to sit out on account of the nagging groin issue. But based on what AD said above, the Lakers vs Hawks matchup might really see him sit out.

He finished tonight with 23 points, two assists, and seven rebounds. Bron also had 23 points, but he notched a double-double with 10 assists while grabbing six rebounds. A Vanderbilt ejection in the first half didn’t help LA’s situation at all, either. Taurean Prince took his place but managed just five points in 25 minutes of game time.

But what about James? Will Los Angeles have to face the Atlanta Hawks without their superstars on-court?

Will the Lakers miss LeBron along with a potential Anthony Davis absence?

As mentioned above, the Lakers’ injury report before each game these past few days always had Bron and AD as questionable. Tonight saw the latter struggle mightily with his persistent groin injury. While the Rockets matchup was a letdown, the Lakers fans are trying to keep their hopes up by choosing to trust that it was the exhaustion from the GSW matchup that led to a dismal performance.

Is Anthony Davis the Greatest Teammate Lebron James Has Ever Had?

They will be visiting the State Farm Arena next to face their inter-conference rival, the Hawks. And with everyone bracing themselves for a possible AD absence, King James has provided a glimmer of hope. According to a recent update, the ‘Akron Hammer’ said he “plans to play tomorrow night.”

Atlanta currently ranks 11th with a 19-27 record. With the team facing quite a bit of heat for their hard-fought loss against Dallas (143-148), Young and Co. narrowly avoided a similar fate tonight vs Toronto. They will obviously look to continue that when they face LA. Especially if the latter is missing two key players.

One take at a time

“Not only is there more to life than basketball, there’s a lot more to basketball than basketball” - Jackson had a simple philosophy when he was coaching the Lakers. He wanted everyone to succeed and grow in the service of something bigger than themselves. This is what struck me the most.
