Luka Doncic put up one of the most historic scoring performances in NBA history last Friday. He cooked the Atlanta Hawks defense and went off for 73 points, the highest individual scoring game since Kobe Bryant’s 81 points in 2006. At only 24 years old, Luka has become the face of the Dallas Mavericks franchise. However, in his 5 years with the Mavs, Luka Doncic and Co. have not made much impact in the post-season.
Former Mavs owner Mark Cuban addressed the bizarre notion of wasting the Slovenian magician’s prime in a unique interaction with fans.

Mark Cuban put up a unique Ask Me Anything interaction with his followers on X. One fan asked if he felt guilty for wasting Luka Doncic’s prime. Cuban calmly responded, “Luka (Doncic) is going to get better. He hasn’t reached his prime yet. He is amazing.” As surprising as it may sound, Cuban believes Luka has not reached his maximum potential just yet. The Slovenian sensation is only 5 years into his NBA career. Even though Luka has become one of the best players in the league at only 24 years old, most players do not hit their prime until much later in their careers. For example, superstars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokić, and Joel Embiid are currently in their prime in their late 20s.

Luka had a hot start to his NBA career and turned into an instant superstar in his rookie season. While it took Giannis and Jokic a few years to develop their game and make an impact, Luka made his first All-Star team selection in his sophomore season. He has not missed an All-Star game since. Luka is already a 5-time All-Star and has 4 consecutive First Team All-NBA selections. While many believe these to be Luka’s prime years, his ceiling is much higher.

Can Luka Doncic finally get over the hump?
Luka Doncic is having the best year of his career this season. He is averaging a career-high 34.4 points and 9.4 assists. However, the Mavs are still stuck in the 8th spot in the Western Conference standings with a 25-21 record. Luka’s co-star, Kyrie Irving, has missed a lot of games this season due to multiple injuries. And that has caused the Mavs to lose their momentum. Luka Doncic and Co. were unable to reach the playoffs last season, and they want to change that.
